Bajaj Auto has received the green light from the Austrian Takeover Commission to complete its takeover of KTM’s parent company. The brand is now awaiting approval from the EU Directorate Competition. What does this takeover mean for KTM customers? Here’s what we think:

Currently, KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas are owned by Pierer Mobility AG. Pierer Bajaj AG is a majority shareholder in Pierer Mobility AG. Right now, Bajaj Auto already owns 49.9 percent stake in Pierer Bajaj AG via its subsidiary Bajaj Auto International Holdings B.V. Bajaj had stepped in to ease the Austrian brand’s financial woes.
So far, Bajaj has received approval from several regulatory bodies. Once the approval is finalised, which will most likely happen by November 10, 2025, the brand will have an option to buy the remaining 50.1 percent of the shares of Pierer Bajaj AG and take full control of KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas.

With Bajaj taking full control over KTM’s operations, the Indian brand will have a greater say over major decisions. Firstly, the KTM product lineup will likely be streamlined so that there are distinct products in distinct engine displacement categories. Secondly, Bajaj is also working on a new twin-cylinder platform, so with the brand gaining control over KTM, it will have easier access to the necessary technological expertise to perfect the platform. The takeover plan may also help subsidise the cost of manufacturing of multi-cylinder bikes - KTM’s existing bikes, as well as any bikes that Bajaj may plan in the future.
