Here's how Taiwan's latest sporty e-scooter fares against our very own Ather 450X in images

Here's how Taiwan's latest sporty e-scooter fares against our very own Ather 450X in images

Yamaha has launched the EMF performance electric scooter in Taiwan. While it's unlikely to arrive in India, we have our own sporty electric scooter here, the Ather 450X.

In this picture comparison, we pit the two EVs against each other to see which one comes out on top.

We start with the design. While the Ather 450X looks sharp and sporty, the Yamaha EMF gets a lean and futuristic styling. The Ather's fascia gets a diamond-shaped LED headlight with slim LED turn indicators. In contrast, the Yamaha EMF gets a vertically stacked twin projector LED headlight with tiny LED turn indicators.

Moving to the side, and both scooters look neat and clean. The Ather 450X gets the standard footboard, and the EMF has a centre hump on the footboard, with integrated storage space.

The Ather 450X's tail section is sharp, sporting a sleek LED taillight. The Yamaha EMF's looks lean yet muscular with twin vertically stacked circular LED taillights.

Now, to the features. The Ather 450X gets a 7-inch TFT display with Bluetooth and app connectivity. This instrument cluster displays call alerts and music control. Moreover, it also gets integrated 4G LTE SIM connectivity, access to Google Maps, and in-built storage. Meanwhile, the EMF is equipped with an NFC activation card for keyless operation and a full-LED backlit instrument cluster that displays speed, time, battery level, performance mode, mileage record, and maintenance alerts. This dash can be paired with a smartphone via an exclusive app that displays riding stats, parking location, and navigation.

The Ather 450X is powered by a 2.9KWh lithium-ion battery that lends the e-scooter a claimed range of 85km in 'Eco' mode. The other riding modes are Warp, Sport, and Ride. Meanwhile, the Yamaha EMF uses swappable batteries from Gogoro.

Both electric scooters are propelled by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. The EMF churns out 7.6kw and 26Nm, while the Ather 450X makes 6kw and 26Nm.

The ride of the Ather 450X is taken care of by a front telescopic fork and a rear monoshock, whereas the Yamaha EMF uses an upright front fork and dual shock absorbers at the rear. The braking hardware for both scooters is the same -- disc brakes at either ends.

The Ather 450X is priced at Rs 1,38,006 (Delhi, including subsidies, while the Yamaha EMF will set you back by NT$99,800 (around Rs 2.69 lakh).

While the Yamaha scooter will probably not be launched here, the bikemaker is working on an EV specifically for India.

Ather 450X is a good option for daily living.

A typical petrol scooter incurs a cost of ₹2.2/km whereas the Ather 450X costs ₹0.2/km. This means if you ride the scooter for 100 km a week, you save more than ₹10,000 on fuel every year. So, the more you ride, the more you save. It's a very good option for daily living and it's a very good commuter .Read More
