Ducati Hypermotard Expert Review

29th September, 2015: Ducati has finally launched its exclusive adventure bike in India christened as Hypermotard. The bike has been build on a complete off-roading platform to provide a thrilling experience to the adventure lovers of the country. It will come in three variants, which are Ducati Hypermotard, Hypermotard SP and Hyperstrada. The machines will come with a 821.1cc, Testastretta liquid-cooled mill that produces 110bhp of power and 89Nm of torque. These are put in the price range of Rs. 10.00 lacs to Rs. 19.10 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). A future model of the bike christened as Hypermotard 939 is speculated to be showcased at the upcoming edition of EICMA and will be among the nine models promised by the company for 2016.

Bolted on a tubular steel trellis frame, the bike is dynamically a delight to watch. The front end gets an aggressive styling with the integration of a pointed headlamp section and a highly raised fender. The clear lens indicators are fitted impressively in the handlebar guards. The fuel tank is chiselled to perfection giving an upright riding position to the rider. Ducati Hypermotard has a neatly crafted tail lamp section and a stainless steel muffler with two lambda probes that look stunning. With a wheelbase of 1,500mm, the bike offers good stability and handling characteristics to please the rider. It comes with a 16 liter fuel tank and a total kerb weight of 198kg. The fully digital instrument cluster consists of a speedometer, tachometer, trip meter, temperature gauge, fuel gauge, average speed, average fuel consumption and telltale lights.

Powering the bike is a 821.1cc, Testastretta 11° L-twin, liquid-cooled mill that pumps out a peak power of 110bhp at 9,250rpm with a maximum torque of 89Nm at 7,750rpm. It incorporates Magneti Marelli electronic fuel injection system and runs smoothly with six-speed constant mesh transmission system. The wet multiplate slipper clutch set-up assures that the bike do not lose revs under aggressive down shifting, hence minimises the effect of engine braking.

The bike moves on SP 120/70 ZR17 front and SP 180/55 ZR17 rear tubeless tyres with lightweight black alloy wheels. The high-quality Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tyres offer a superior ride quality and an uncompromising grip. To perform braking duties effectively and smoothly, the manufacturer has installed dual 320mm disc brakes with Brembo four piston calliper upfront and 245mm disc brake with twin piston calliper at the rear. Moreover, Bosch 9MP ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) is also provided that promises a stable and secure braking under strict conditions. The suspension kit of the bike comprises of Marzocchi 50mm fully adjustable upside-down shock absorbers at the front and progressive linkage with Ohlins monoshock at the rear.

Ducati has always succeeded well in keeping its machines well-paced yet safer, right since the beginning. With this philosophy, Ducati Hypermotard receives a Ducati Traction Control (DTC) unit that prevents skidding of the tyres and offer a safe riding experience. With the advanced Bosch 9 MP ABS in stock, the rider can unleash full braking power of the bike without worrying about any hazard. Moreover, the company also provides three distinct riding modes in Hypermotard SP that enable the rider adjust his machine according to different road and environment conditions. The following set of features present the bike as an uncompromised package that fits well in the world’s high-end adventure motorcycle portfolio.
