Bajaj Urbanite Chetak Highlights
An electric scooter from Bajaj’s Urbanite project has been spotted testing for the second time. According to our sources, it is likely to be called the Chetak and Bosch is heavily involved in the development. So expect the powertrain to be pretty sophisticated. We were also able to keep up with the scooter at about 70kmph! It goes to show that the scooter will have adequate performance on tap. As per our sources, the scooter will be launched after the monsoon and will be priced at a premium, probably around Rs 1.1 lakh (on-road). When launched, it will compete against the Ather 450.
The headlamp and tail light are likely to be LEDs and the instrument cluster could be a fully digital unit. There’s a single-sided swingarm and it is likely to pack a brushless DC motor linked to a belt drive. Up front, the scooter features a single-sided suspension like the Vespa and the rear is likely to pack a monoshock. There’s a disc brake at the front and a drum unit at the rear.
