2020 Yamaha MT 03 Highlights
Yamaha has unveiled its new MT-03 which will make its way to India next year. The bike now features dual LED position lamps and an LED headlight as well as revised bodywork. Also new are the 37mm KYB upside-down front fork and the spring rates on the preload-adjustable rear shock. The fully-digital LCD instrument cluster is another new addition on the updated MT-03. The bike shares its parallel-twin 321cc engine with the R3, and we expect it to have similar output too. Braking duties are taken care of by a 298mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS being offered as standard.
The MT-03 is expected to come to India sometime next year at a price of Rs 3.3 lakh - Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom), and it will take on the likes of the KTM 390 Duke, the BMW G 310 R and the Honda CB 300R.

Yamaha MT-03 is a naked version of Yamaha YZF-R3. Yamaha Motor India is planning to launch this naked bike in the country by mid-2016. MT-03 shares its style with its younger sibling MT-25. Powering the bike is the same 321cc, liquid-cooled, parallel twin-cylinder engine that serves the Yamaha YZF-R3. The powerful engine will develop a maximum power of 41.4 bhp at 10750 rpm along with a peak torque of 29.6 Nm at 9000 rpm. The fuel injected mill comes mated to a constant mesh 6-speed transmission system and uses TCI as its ignition system.
Same as YZF-R3, Mt-03 is bolted on Diamond-type steel frame. The beast shares its design style with its fully-faired mate R3, except, front fairing and a tweaked steering geometry. The front profile of the bike is similar to its fully-faired sibling which includes YZF series signature twin headlights. The headlamp of the machine has a keen design that suits very well to its overall character. Talking about the rear, the machine features a keen tail lamp and the clear lens turning indicators fitted impressively on the number plate section. The instrument console of the bike is easy to read and informative.
The naked street bike has been provided with tubeless tyres that are further mounted over alloy wheels. Furthermore, To stop the bike it has been equipped with Hydraulic disc brakes at both, the front and the rear. It sports a telescopic forks suspension at the front and swingarm aided mono-shock at the rear.
Design and Features
Yamaha MT-03 is a stripped-down version of R3, which now on sale in the domestic market. It shares design cues with R3. The front fascia of the bike is getting a sharply crafted headlamp with twin pilot lamp. The twin rear view mirrors are fitted nicely on the handlebar, hence, improve the aesthetic of the machine. The instrument cluster of the bike is easy to read that displays the information about digital speedometer, trip meter, odometer, fuel gauge and an analogue tachometer. It has been fitted with a muscular fuel tank of 14 liters capacity that gives a respectable riding stance to the rider. It has also been provided with well-padded thick cushioned split seat that offer an optimum comfort level to the rider as well as the pillion even on the long distance rides. Coming to the rear, the bike feature a sharp tail lamp light and the clear lens turn blinkers are embedded impressively on the number plate holder.
Constructed on a diamond type frame, the giant has an overall body measurement of 2090 mm in length, 745 mm in width, 1035 mm in height that gives it an indispensable road appearance and a wheelbase of 1380 mm ensures an agile and sharp control in all condition. It has a minimum ground clearance of 160 mm that offers a smooth ride around the corners. Forbye, it has been equipped with a huge fuel tank of 14 liters capacity that offers a good riding posture as well as long distance rides without any halt. The total kerb weight of the bike is 165 kgs.
Engine and Performance
Yamaha MT-03 is loaded with the same 321cc, 2-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valves engine that is used to serve its faired sibling R3. The powerful engine comes mated to constant mesh 6-speed transmission system that churns out 41.4 bhp of power at 10500 rpm along with 29.6 Nm of torque at 9000 rpm. It uses a Wet, Multiple Disc type clutch assembly to transmits the power to the rear wheel and uninterrupted power delivery. The fuel injected motor has a compression ratio of 11.2: 1 and a power oriented bore x stroke ratio of 68 mm x 44.1 mm.
Braking and Handling
MT-03 is a naked street bike, which has been fitted with 110/70-17M/C 54H as its front and 140/70-17M/C 66H as its rear tyres. Both tyres are tubeless and have a good grip on the road, hence, provide a smooth ride on the Indian terrains. Moreover, these tyres are mounted over an elegant alloy wheels. The braking duties are carried out by 298 mm hydraulic disc brake at the front and 220 mm hydraulic disc brake at the rear. It features a telescopic fork as its front suspension and swingarm assisted mono shock absorber as its rear suspension.
Safety and Features
MT-03 equipped with a 12V, 60/55W headlight that provide a steady beam of light and illuminates the roads pretty well at the nights even in the dark areas. Furthermore, it has been fitted with tubeless tyres that reduce the chance of sudden downshift in the case of a puncture. The bike is built on a diamond frame that ensures the premium stability at high speeds.
