Expert Review
Introduction
The 350cc version of the Triumph Thruxton 400 has been launched recently. It joins the rest of the 350cc lineup, which includes the Speed 400, Speed T4, Tracker 400, as well as the Scrambler 400 and Scrambler 400 XC. The bike has remained more or less the same in its 350cc guise, minus the smaller engine, of course. This has been done to ensure it complies with the new GST 2.0 norms that commands a lower tax bracket for bikes displacing 350cc and less.
The 350cc Thruxton is priced at Rs 2,65,538 (ex-showroom Delhi), which is Rs 10,845 cheaper than the 400cc version. Interestingly, the 350cc Thruxton 400 is set to witness an increase in price from June 1, 2026.
Design
The Triumph Thruxton 400’s design is reminiscent of the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR, but it has been designed by taking inspiration from the Thruxton 1200 R. The fit and finish is typical Triumph, meaning it’s really well-done. The pillion seat cowl rounds off the design at the rear, but the tubular steel grab rail sticks out like a sore thumb. We wish Triumph had given a pair of split grab rails instead.

The four colour options also remain unchanged: Carnival Red/Aluminium Silver, Phantom Black/Aluminium Silver, Pearl Metallic White/Storm Grey, and Metallic Racing Yellow/Aluminium Silver.
Features
Safety Features
The Thruxton 400 with the 350cc engine continues with the same set of features as the 400cc one, but the engine immobiliser is no longer present. Other safety features remain intact, including dual-channel ABS, and switchable traction control.
Convenience Features
The bike continues with the same semi-digital console as the 400cc version. That means you get a retro-modern semi-digital console with analogue speedometer, digital inset with fuel gauge, gear position indicator, tachometer, tripmeters, odometer, among others.
Rider and Pillion comfort
Rider Comfort
The 350cc Triumph Thruxton 400 gets the same clip-on handlebars as the 400cc bike, so the riding posture is aggressive, complete with rear-set footpegs. This bike is meant to be ridden in a spirited manner for short distances, so the posture works for that. Long commutes or tours may not be that comfortable.
Pillion Comfort
The rear cowl can be easily removed to accommodate a pillion rider. That said, while it has decent space, it is ideal only for short commutes.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
The Triumph Thruxton 400 now gets a 349cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. It generates 40PS and 32Nm, which is 2PS and 5.5Nm lower than what the older 398cc engine made. Triumph has still made sure it is more powerful than all the other 350cc bikes from the brand, except for the Tracker 400. Triumph has shortened the stroke, made several changes to other parts in the engine, including a reworked fueling, intake, revised valve timings, redesigned counterbalancer, heavier crank and flywheel, among others.

City & Highway Performance:
Compared to the 400cc version, this one is 0.8 seconds slower from 0-100kmph, taking 8.3 seconds. The top speed is also slightly lower at 157kmph, as opposed to 161kmph in the 400cc version. Still, this is plenty enough for Indian roads, and the small performance drop shouldn’t really be a deal-breaker as such.
Gearbox:
The 350cc Thruxton 400 continues with the same 6-speed gearbox with slip-and-assist clutch. This ensures the rear wheel doesn’t lock up while shifting to lower gears aggressively, and also the lever effort is light.
Handling & Ride Quality
Brakes
The Thruxton 350cc bike retains the same 300mm front and 230mm rear disc with sintered pads for better bite. The brake bite is also progressive, and the rear is easy to adjust on the fly for correcting the bike’s speed mid-corner confidently.

Handling & Ride Quality
With the sharper rake, the Thruxton 400 can easily tip into corners. This along with the clip-on handlebars and sporty stance help in pushing much harder while cornering. If you want a nimble bike, then you’ll find the Thruxton to be satisfying.
As for the ride quality, it’s important to note that since this is a sporty motorcycle, the suspension has been dialled in to be a bit on the firmer side. It can somewhat manage some potholes, but sharp ones will filter through. That said, if the roads are smooth, then you won’t have any complaints.
Rivals To Consider
There are no single-cylinder cafe racers in India other than the Thruxton. The closest cafe racer alternative is the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, which is a parallel-twin bike, that too with a much bigger displacement, heavier kerb weight, and a heftier price tag as well.
