How well does the Sugomi design language transfer onto the 250cc inline-four?

For pretty much every fully faired Ninja out there, Kawasaki has an equivalent naked ‘Z’ model. I say pretty much because the recently launched and very exciting Ninja ZX-25R doesn’t yet have a naked sibling. Not wanting to wait for Team Green to eventually get around to it, digital artist Julak Sendie Design from Indonesia has taken matters into his own hands and rendered a naked Z25R.

In fact, it has come up with not one but two potential designs for the Z25R. The first is based on the equally mental (and supercharged) Z H2, while the second draws inspiration from the twin-cylinder Z250. Both designs feature an angular and rather angry-looking LED headlight, true to the Sugomi design language that Kawasaki uses for its Z series. Slightly further back, there’s a muscular, sculpted fuel tank which drops quite steeply to a low rider’s seat. The pillion seat is a lofty affair, featuring a split-seat design usually seen on hardcore supersport motorcycles.

The difference between the two renders lies in the lower forward flank region, with the Z250-based design featuring a semi-fairing of sorts that runs all the way from the tank extensions to the belly pan, while the Z H2 inspired version sports a more exposed and naked look. This leaves the four exhaust headers proudly on display, showcasing the bike’s crowning jewel: its 250cc inline-four motor. In both renders, the mid-riff portion of the frame is on display, finished in an eye-catching lime green shade, and we also get a peek at the welded-on trellis subframe. The stubby side-exiting exhaust system is virtually identical to that seen on the Ninja, as is the wonky swingarm.

So, are we likely to genuinely see a Z25R from Kawasaki anytime soon? Well, we haven’t heard any murmurs about it so far, which means that either Kawasaki is playing this one really close to the chest, or it has no plans for a naked version of the ZX-25R. Let’s take a look at the brand’s previous form for a moment - the ‘softer’ Ninjas: the Ninja 250, Ninja 400, Ninja 650 and Ninja 1000, all have naked Z siblings, but the more hardcore ZX Ninjas: the ZX-6R, ZX-10R and ZX-14R, do not have naked equivalents. So all the clues point towards the fact that these renders are probably as close to a Z25R as we’ll ever get.
