Yamaha FZ25 - The Next 250cc India-Bound Motorcycle

Yamaha will soon bring a 250cc motorcycle in India christened Yamaha FZ25. As the name suggests, the bike will be based on a naked motorcycle platform and will take on the only available 250cc street bike in the country- Kawasaki Z250. With this, Yamaha will make its entry in the quarter-litre segment that will surely help increase its overall sales. As per reports, the bike will be priced at Rs. 1.7 lac (on-road) for the Indian market. Besides this, Yamaha will also be bringing an 110cc commuter motorcycle soon to further strengthen its entry-level product lineup.

Though nothing exact can be said at the moment about the mechanicals, the bike is expected to draw its power from a 250cc, air-cooled engine that will produce 46bhp of power with a six-speed manual transmission unit. Most probably, the machine will borrow its design cues from the Yamaha FZ1 and will come with the same aggressive naked streetfighter appeal. It would be interesting to see how the bike performs in the Indian markets as the 250cc segment, slowly and steadily, is gradually becoming more feasible for the buyers here. 

Yamaha already has the YZF-R3 in the 300cc segment and with the introduction of FZ25, the company will have a good hold on this segment. As reported by us recently, while Suzuki has no plans of bringing the Gixxer 250 in near future, Yamaha seems aggressive in this segment and the FZ25 might prove a big game changer for them. The company has showcased a number of products at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. Out of these, the launch of MT-09 really took the Indians by surprise. Other major attractions at the Yamaha booth during the event included Valentino Rossi’s MotoGP bike, YZF-R1M and Yamaha N-Max scooter. Stay tuned for more updates!
