The 1200cc roadster is based on the Thruxton
- Its 1200cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin motor makes 97PS and 112Nm.
- Globally, it is the most accessible 1200cc Bonnie.
- It is expected to be priced a shade below Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
Triumph is set to launch the Speed Twin in India tomorrow. The new bike is a roadster derived from Triumph’s sporty Thruxton R. The idea is to give Triumph customers a more user-friendly but equally sporty alternative to the aggressive Thruxton R cafe racer.
The Speed Twin gets more upright ergonomics compared to the Thruxton. However, you do lean a bit towards the one-piece flat bar, which has been sourced from the Speed Triple. The footpegs are forward set and lower than the Thruxton for a more comfortable stance. It also gets Bonneville-like styling, which in silhouette looks like a larger Street Twin. Features include an LED DRL housed within the halogen headlamp, a twin pod analogue instrument console with digital insets, and bar-end mirrors similar to those seen on the Street Triple RS.

The 1200cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin motor gets the High Power state of tune. It makes 97PS and 112Nm of torque, 100Nm of which is available right from 2000rpm to 6250rpm. This motor is 2.5kg lighter than the one on the Thruxton R thanks to new and lighter magnesium cam covers, a revised clutch assembly and mass optimised engine covers. It gets a 6-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch. Like the Thruxton R, you get ride-by-wire, three rider modes (Rain, Road and Sport), ABS and switchable traction control.
The tubular cradle frame’s cradle part is made out of aluminium while the rake and trail have been slightly extended for a roadster-style riding dynamics. The wheelbase too is 15mm longer than the Thruxton R. While the Speed Twin misses out on the Thruxton R’s Ohlins suspension setup, it gets conventional 41mm cartridge type forks and twin shock absorbers that can be adjusted for preload. The basic suspension setup aside, the Speed Twin gets Pirelli Diablo Rosso III radials. Braking is via twin axially-mounted Brembo four-piston calipers and rear twin-piston Nissin callipers.

In India, we expect the Speed Twin to be priced a shade below Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). At that price, it will rival other naked roadsters like the Ducati Monster 821 and Yamaha MT-09.

Got this a month back and since then, have been crushing on it every day. Do not hesitate in choosing this if you are looking for a powerful bike with a retro yet modern machine. It is so subtle and beautiful that you will keep admiring it. Performance-wise, this is the best that you can ask for city and highway rides.
I saw the review of this bike and I must say this bike is very powerful with a balanced bike with a retro look and modern design and tech. Traction control, Riding modes & ABS make this bike safer and better.
