Triumph Developing Street Triple Tourer?

Triumph’s bug-eyed road blazer was recently spotted in its uprated avatar as the Street Triple 765. Previous reports suggested that the Street Triple family will expand to include 4 models and it looks like one of them will be a touring version of the street-fighter, as per a report by Auto Evolution.

While the news can be deemed a rumour at best for now, it shouldn’t be too difficult to develop a touring version of the bike. For reference, the Yamaha Tracer 700 is based on the MT-07 naked-bike, and while an equivalent from Triumph would be welcome, what’s important is that the company won’t have to spend too much money for its development. Imagine the Street Triple with a set of handlebar guards, a more relaxed ride stance, purpose built body panels for improved windblast protection and a more comfort-centric suspension setup.

Triumph is already working on a new platform for the Street Triple, the highlight of which is the new engine. The new motor may be offered in three states of tune, with output figures ranging from 110PS to over 120PS. If produced, the Street Triple tourer’s heart will most likely be tuned to offer the best mid-range grunt delivery, leaving the top-speed triumphs to be achieved by other models in the range.

As of now, your guess is as good as ours, but there’s no denying that the potential for a tourer to slot in below the 1,050cc Triumph Tiger Sport (not sold in India), is strong.

Do you think Triumph will offer a Street Triple-based tourer? Should it? Let us know through the comments section!
