  • Bookings for the scooter have commenced all across India.

Okinawa has launched the i-Praise in India at Rs 1.15 lakh. While that’s a substantial price bump, the i-Praise gets a lithium-ion battery and a couple of new features over the standard Praise (Rs 69,789). For instance, it gets features like geofencing, virtual speed limit, battery health tracker, SOS notifications, continuous monitoring, trips, directions, maintenance/insurance reminder and vehicle status. All of these can be accessed via the Okinawa Eco app available on Google Play store. The i-Praise will be available in three colour options: glossy red black, glossy golden black and glossy silver black. Notably, the company has managed to rake in 450 bookings through its pre-launch sales.

The new detachable lithium-ion battery can be fully charged within 2-3 hours compared to the charge time of 6-8 hours on the standard Praise. It delivers a company claimed range of 160-180km while its 2.9kWh battery can be charged via a 5A socket. Moreover, thanks to the lighter battery pack, Okinawa claims that the scooter is 30-40 per cent lighter than other e-scooters in its segment.

Powering the i-Praise is the same 1000 watt BLDC motor with a peak power output of 2.5kW. The e-scooter also gets three power modes: Eco, Standard and Turbo. In Eco, which is the most efficient mode, the scooter is able to achieve 35kmph. Standard mode has it clocking 55-60kmph, while Turbo pushes the scooter to 70-75kmph.

Rather than the big disc version, Okinawa has opted to go with a smaller disc, presumably to save weight. Furthermore, the i-Praise gets a taller seat height of 800mm compared to the 774mm on the standard model. At a price tag of Rs 1.15 lakh, the Okinawa i-Praise competes with Ather’s e-scooters, the Ather 340 (1.9 lakh) and Ather 450, priced at Rs 1.24 lakh. What's more? According to Okinawa, the Indian Navy has become its very first customer.
