New Hero MotoCorp Bike Patented In India: It's Not The Splendor Classic

It looks like a more affordable version of their 150cc bike sold internationally

A new patent has been filed by Hero MotoCorp for a new commuter bike in India. While it might look like the now-discontinued Splendor Pro Classic at first glance, it’s not the affordable cafe racer.

In fact, it’s the Hero Eco 150, that’s sold in South Africa, but without the headlight cowl. The Eco 150 is a commercial bike in foreign markets, and is also called the Hunter 150 in some countries. There’s a Hunter 125 in Nigeria, that looks similar to the patented bike, but has a smaller engine.

What we have here could be a design patent of an upcoming model for those countries. Hero MotoCorp could have registered a patent for copyright protection.

What Is The Hero Eco 150

The Hero Eco 150 is an affordable do-it-all bike – a workhorse if you will. It gets a 150cc air-cooled engine, with a carb – not fuel injection. It gets rather simple equipment – a conventional fork, dual rear shocks, drum brakes at both ends, a dual-pod analogue instrument cluster, and a halogen headlamp; all of which is aimed at making it easy to own. And the same can be seen in the patent image.

India Launch

The Eco 150, or its patented variant, or even the “cafe racer”, might not ever make it to India. Hero MotoCorp already has a strong line-up of affordable and reliable commuters, with a strong demand, in India. The Indian market has moved away from frill-free 150cc commuters to sporty or feature-rich 160cc bikes. Hence the Eco might not make as much of an economical sense in the country.
