Goes without saying that the bikes have been customised as per Mumbai Police specifications

  • Feature saddles, lighting system, sirens and a tall windscreen.
  • They even come with unique livery finished with police decals.
  • Underneath, the Gixxer SF 250 remains unchanged.

First Segways and now new bikes? Looks like Mumbai Police is on the verge of a 360-degree transformation. The law enforcement agency has added 10 new Suzuki Gixxer SF 250s to its patrolling fleet which means the vast majority won’t be able to outrun them anymore, thus making the streets safer. This isn’t the first time Suzuki has handed over customised motorcycles to the police. The police department of Gurugram, as well as Surat, use Suzuki motorcycles for patrolling the streets. It's part of Suzuki's road safety CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative. Good on them!

The fleet of Gixxer SF 250s has been customised to suit police requirements. So the motorcycles feature a tall windscreen, saddles bags, a mic, lighting system, and blaring sirens which would make you wet your pants. The main control unit for the lights and sirens is mounted on the handlebar. Finishing touches include a white paint scheme with ‘Police’ decals all over. The added equipment will surely add to the bike’s weight but it’s unclear as to how much it weighs. The standard bike tips the scale at 161kg kerb. Needless to say, the Gixxer SF 250 is still capable of cruising at triple-digit speeds all day long, so don’t get any bright ideas.

According to Mumbai Police, these bikes will primarily be used to clear traffic and make way for emergency services like ambulances or fire brigades. They’ll also act as first responders and look into complaints received via social media.

Underneath it’s all the same. It’s powered by a BS6-compliant 249cc single-cylinder engine with a unique oil-cooler. It's tuned to make 26.5PS at 9300rpm and 22.2Nm of peak torque at 7300rpm. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard with LED lights at the front and back for illumination.

The steps taken by Suzuki to equip law enforcement agencies will surely pay dividends in the future. It will not only ensure road safety but also hopefully keep anarchists at bay.
