KTM ProXP: Kiran’s KTM 390 Adventure From A Doubtful Decision To His Dream Ride
From second thoughts to dream rides, Kiran’s KTM 390 Adventure brought him back to biking and helped him conquer Ladakh with confidence.
Kiran Kumar R from Palakkad, Kerala, had stayed away from bikes for the past 17 years. When he started thinking about getting one again, he wasn’t sure if he’d actually ride it. The idea of owning a bike sounded great, but he kept wondering if he would use it enough. That confusion stuck around—until the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure launched.
The new bike caught his eye with its Dakar-inspired looks and great reviews. Finally, he decided to go for it—and hasn’t looked back since. In just four months, he’s clocked over 7,000 kilometers. He adds how this bike easily tackled every kind of terrain which Ladakh had to throw at it. Be it watercrossings, sand patches or long gravel trails, it handled everything with great enthusiasm and that also pushed his confidence as well.
He was fascinated by testing the capabilities of his bike in harsh terrain like Ladakh and gives the credit to his 390 Adventure. He says the electronic features really helped, especially the traction control and off-road ABS on rough patches. On the other hand, cruise control and quickshifter+ made cruising on the highway very effortless. The suspension and the 21-inch front wheel made it easier to ride over gravel and sand patches. All these things made the ride feel safer and more fun, and gave him a lot more confidence while riding in tricky places.
One of his dream rides was to ride to Ladakh. So when he got to know about KTM Great Ladakh Adventure Tour, he signed up instantly. The 11-day tour turned out to be one of the best experiences of his life. Along with stunning landscapes, he got to ride with a group of passionate bikers and really felt the sense of brotherhood on the road. He learned a lot, especially from the lead rider who helped him improve his off-road skills.
A special part of the trip was attending the High Altitude Adventure Academy in Ladakh, which helped him gain more confidence in tough terrains. The training came in handy throughout the tour. Kiran also appreciated how KTM handled everything. From planning and support to maintenance and logistics, everything was taken care of. The team even had a doctor traveling with them, which gave his family peace of mind. “We were pampered,” he laughs. “Everything was so well-organized, there’s nothing I would change.”
Looking back, Kiran says buying the KTM 390 Adventure was one of the best decisions he’s made. It brought his passion for biking back to life and helped him live his dream. And now, it’s only the beginning of many more adventures to come.

- Ready to Adventure.I also have a Duke, Adv has covered all the issues which I have faced on Duke when I use to go on long rides, Ride is also plush coupled with a great engine which proves itself on all grounds. Also it has a decent fuel efficiency considering its engine performance. Bike's comfortable its mileage is also good I get a decent range, but the engine won't feel as raw as BS4 duke, great electronics and safety. Just having engine oil consumption on higher side. Also the Trampler tyres give more life than Turanzas which came initially. Long hauling person should definitely buy this bike, long rides are so hassle free. And comfortable, also if you have to carry any luggage they have provided good anchoring points. Tieing a back pack or a duffle bag is easy.Read More6
