KTM 390 SMC R India Launch Timeline & Other Details
It could be India’s first affordable supermoto
The KTM SMC 390 R could soon be launched in India, but with a small change. The supermoto is derived from the KTM Enduro 390 R but rides on 17-inch wheels at both ends instead of the Enduro’s 21-inch front and 18-inch rear. The supermoto will most likely retain the India-spec Enduro's suspension with 200mm of front travel and 205mm at the rear.
This supermoto configuration is designed for a mix of circuit racing, motocross and flat-track competition.
The 350cc Engine Twist
The 390 SMC R is manufactured in India and has been sold globally with the 399cc engine.
Unlike the global spec, the Indian model is expected to be powered by a smaller 349cc engine that makes 41.5PS and 33.5Nm . The lower taxation for sub-350cc motorcycles will allow Bajaj to price it competitively.
With the smaller engine, it could be called the KTM 390 SMC - no R suffix. This is the naming format the brand has adopted in India, which is seen on the KTM 390 Adventure R and the KTM 390 Duke R, which use the 399cc engine. The 350cc iterations of these bikes don’t have the ‘R’ suffix.
While there’s no official confirmation on its launch timeline, we can expect it somewhere around the end of the year.
