Intermot 2022: Horex Regina Evo 600cc Retro Bike Unveiled, Weighs Less Than KTM 390 Duke

German company Horex has unveiled its newest model, the Regina Evo at Intermot 2022. In celebration of the brand’s upcoming 100th anniversary in 2023, this bike harks back to one of its most popular models from the past, the 1958 Regina, but packaged with a modern twist. The styling inspiration from the original Regina is immediately evident. Both are single-seat, retro roadsters that use a single-cylinder engine and this is exactly where the retro story ends. 

Horex’s new Regina is thoroughly modern underneath and has a particularly strong reliance on carbon-fibre which is used for the frame and swingarm, and at the heart of it all is an extremely potent-sounding engine. It is a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder 600cc one, making 48PS and 54Nm, paired to a six-speed gearbox. While that doesn't sound like a lot, it’s probably a good time to mention the bike’s dry weight- which, thanks to all the carbon-fibre, is a mere 133kg. 

That means the Regina Evo makes 1PS and 2Nm more than the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 (despite having a displacement and cylinder disadvantage) while weighing a colossal 38kg less than the KTM 390 Duke! Now that’s a recipe for madness.

Suspension duties are handled by a telescopic fork and cantilever monoshock. Braking duties are performed by a dual Beringer two-piston caliper setup at the front, with 260mm brake discs. The rear gets a single Beringer two-piston caliper and a 240mm brake disc. The Regina Evo rolls on a pair of chrome-look aluminium 18-inch spoke wheels and comes with ABS as standard. 

It also gets modern features such as cornering lights, cornering ABS, traction control and a round, three-inch TFT console. While the pricing and availability of the bike haven’t been announced yet, the Regina Evo will likely be a limited edition, made-to-order bike, with a substantially high price tag owing to the materials used to manufacture it. While it will not be launched in India, if large capacity retro single-cylinder bikes are your thing, then you could wait for the BSA Gold Star.
