The Chieftain Elite and Chieftain Limited are the new new motorcycles and we can expect the latter to make its way to Indian shores via the CBU route

Indian Motorcycle is one of the oldest cruiser bike manufacturers in the world and they are well known for making life size cruiser motorcycles. Keeping up with its heritage, the American manufacturer launched two new motorcycles internationally – the Chieftain Limited and Chieftain Elite.

Both the motorcycles are powered by a 1811cc V-twin engine which produces a peak torque of 161Nm @ 3000 rpm. Most of the torque is delivered at low rpm for a relaxed riding experience which is the essence of any cruiser motorcycle. Both the motorcycles get 46mm telescopic forks with 119mm travel at the front and air-adjusted single-shock with 114mm travel at the rear. Apart from engine and suspensions, the motorcycles also share brakes, wheels and tyres. They get dual 300mm floating rotor with four-piston caliper at the front and single 300mm floating rotor with two-piston caliper at the rear. The 19-inch front wheel is shod with Dunlop American Elite 130/60 R19 tyre and 16-inch rear wheel is shod with Dunlop Elite 3 Multi-Compound 180/60 R16 tyre.

The Chieftain Limited is a proper production motorcycle, whereas the Chieftain Elite will be the a rather exotic one with production limited to 350 units. The Chieftain Elite will get a custom Fireglow Red Candy paint job with pinstriping and marble accents that are guaranteed to give each bike a unique look. It would take a specialized team around 25 hours to hand paint the bike at Indian Motorcycle's custom paint facility located in Spearfish, South Dakota. Other exotic touches include a red custom cam cover, Pathfinder LED headlamp and driving lamps, a different flare windshield, billet-machined rider and passenger floorboards and a 200-watt surround sound audio system.

While it is highly unlikely for the Chieftain Elite to be launched in India, we expect Indian Motorcycle to launch the Chieftain Limited here in the coming months. When launched here, it is expected to be the range-topper in the Indian Motorcycle lineup. The Chieftain Elite is priced at $31,499 (Rs 20.47 lakh) and the Chieftain Limited at $24,499 (Rs 15.92 lakh) which are excluding customs and import duties.
