Gets Hero’s i3S technology will compete against the Honda Activa 125 and the Suzuki Access 125

After unveiling it at the Auto Expo 2018, Hero has launched the Destini 125 (previously named Hero Duet 125) scooter today. Available in two variants, the base (Lx) variant is priced at Rs 54,650 while the deluxe (Vx) variant is priced at Rs 57,500. It goes up against the Honda Activa 125 (Rs 59,921, Drum) and the Suzuki Access 125 (Rs 55,666, Drum) (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes the base variant of the Destini 125 Rs 5,271 cheaper than the Activa 125 and Rs 1,016 cheaper than the Access 125.

The Destini 125 is powered by a 124.6cc engine that churns out 8.7PS of power and 10.2Nm of torque, mated to a CVT transmission. Hero has also equipped the scooter with its i3S start-stop technology, which until now was exclusive to its motorcycle range. In theory, this should help the scooter eke out better fuel efficiency over its competitors. How this works is whenever the scooter comes to a standstill the i3S kills the engine within 5 seconds of stopping. The rider can then start the scooter again by holding on to the rear brake and twisting the throttle. Hero claims a 10 percent gain in fuel efficiency thanks to this technology.

Unlike its flashy sibling, the Hero Maestro Edge 125, the Destini 125 is positioned as a family-friendly scooter. It sports a conventional design with chrome accents on the front, side and rear, along with a dual-tone seat. Feature list consists of a semi-digital instrument console with a side stand indicator and service indicator. You also get a mobile charging port, underseat boot light, external fuel filler cap and an LED tail light. The Destini 125 comes in four different colours - black, brown, red and white.

Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks at the front and a hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. Meanwhile, braking is provided via drum units at both ends along with Hero's integrated braking system.

Considering that the festivities have already begun, this seems to be the perfect time for Hero to enter the market with its first 125cc scooter. The price and list of features offered also make the Hero Destini 125 a strong proposition in the face of its competition.
