Upcoming Ather Konarc Electric Scooter To Get A Metal Body
The metal body will give it a more premium appeal, but could also make it more expensive

Ather Energy’s CEO Tarun Mehta recently shared a video on his social media channel, confirming that the upcoming Ather Konarc will get a metal body. Here’s how we think it could affect the scooter’s design, weight, and overall price.
Knock knock, Kon?

We’ve been working on a few things differently with Konarc.
Here’s a little sneak peek of one of them.
Volume up!

From the video shared, we can see the metal body panels of the scooter. This is expected to give it a more premium appeal, similar to one of its main rivals, the Bajaj Chetak series. However, the metal construction will also add to the scooter’s weight.

For reference, the plastic-bodied Ather 450X has a kerb weight of 108 kg with the smaller 2.9 kWh battery pack, and 111 kg with the larger battery pack. In comparison, the Bajaj Chetak C3001 weighs around 125 kg (kerb), which is mainly because of the metal body panels. Similarly, the metal body panels on the Konarc are expected to make it heavier than the 450X. How this affects its performance, overall efficiency, and its handling remains to be seen.
What We Know So Far

The Ather Konarc will get a swingarm-mounted motor similar to the Ather 450 series, which we think could be tuned differently for a smoother power delivery. It will get a conventional telescopic fork and a monoshock, along with a 14-inch front wheel with a disc brake and a 12-inch rear wheel with a drum brake.

In terms of features, the Konarc will get a TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts, and AtherStack 7 operating system.
On that note, the Ather Konarc’s variants and range specifications have leaked online.
BikeDekho Says
The Ather Konarc will be the brand’s first metal-body electric scooter. We first expect it to be priced around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom). However, with the added complexity and cost of a metal body, it could be difficult for Ather to price it around the Rs 1 lakh mark. Upon launch, it will go up against the Bajaj Chetak C2501, TVS iQube and Vida VX2.
