Bengaluru based EV manufacturer, Ola Electric has begun the deliveries of the Ola S1 Pro Plus (5.2kWh variant), the first model to be powered by the new 4680 Bharat Cell. With this, the company becomes the first in India to design, manufacture and roll out battery cells and battery packs (both entirely in-house), marking a significant shift in its production strategy.

Talking about the new cell in the Ola S1 Pro Plus, it gets its name from its physical dimensions, 46mm in diameter and 80mm in height. This larger cylindrical format is claimed to be engineered for better heat dissipation, especially during rapid charging and hard acceleration, when EV batteries typically experience higher thermal stress. The 4680 Bharat Cell is being produced at Ola’s new Gigafactory, Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu which will also supply cells for upcoming models as well. Ola claims that this new battery design will enhance range, performance and safety altogether.
The Ola S1 Pro Plus comes with a 13kW motor and can accelerate from 0 to 40kmph in 2.1 seconds, while the claimed top speed is 141kmph. It also has a claimed range of 320km, but the real-world range is expected to be lower. The MoveOS also comes with a new DIY mode that lets the rider customise the top speed, throttle sensitivity, peak torque & regenerative braking as per their liking. Apart from this, the e-scooter also features four riding modes: Hyper, Sport, Normal and Eco, and comes equipped with disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS. Updates also include a two-tone seat, body-coloured mirrors, a die-cast aluminium grab handle, rim decals and six striking colour options.
