BSA has finally launched the much-awaited Scrambler 650 in India, marking the brand’s second offering after the Gold Star 650. Priced at Rs 3,24,950 (ex-showroom), the Scrambler brings a rugged, go-anywhere twist to BSA’s retro portfolio, while retaining the core mechanicals of the roadster it is based on.

Design
The BSA Scrambler sticks to a proper old-school scrambler formula. It gets a tall stance, upright ergonomics, and purposeful detailing that clearly separates it from the Gold Star. Key highlights include an upswept exhaust, wire-spoke wheels, block-pattern tyres, and a flatter, single-piece seat. The fuel tank retains a teardrop shape, while the minimal bodywork keeps things clean and rugged. Adding up to its rugged appearance are the high mounted front fender, and a classic scrambler style side panel with a ‘65’ number. Compared to the roadster, the Scrambler also gets a higher 820mm seat height and longer suspension travel, giving it a more off-road-ready posture.
Engine
At the heart of the Scrambler is the same 652cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as the BSA Gold Star 650. This motor produces 45PS and 55Nm, offering a strong low-end and mid-range punch, ideal for both relaxed highway cruising and light off-road duties. The engine is paired with a 5-speed gearbox, and BSA has retained the signature thump and character that defines this long-stroke motor.
Underpinnings
The Scrambler shares its basic chassis with the Gold Star but gets meaningful updates to suit its intended purpose. It rides on a fat, conventional telescopic fork, and twin shock absorbers at the rear, with increased suspension travel for better rough-road capability. The bike also features a larger 19-inch front wheel, revised geometry, and at 208kg (kerb) it's also slightly heavier than the Gold Star. Overall, all of this should contribute to improved stability over broken terrain. Braking duties are handled by a 320mm front and a 255mm rear disc brake setup, supported by dual-channel ABS.
Features
The BSA Scrambler keeps things simple, in line with its retro roots. It gets an offset digital instrument cluster, which looks quite similar to the unit seen on the Yezdi Scrambler. Basic readouts, and minimal electronic intervention. Safety features include dual-channel ABS, traction control, and a slipper clutch. Other than these, there are no flashy electronics here, no ride modes, keeping the riding experience raw and mechanical.
