Overview

The BSA Scrambler is based on the Gold Star 650 platform but with a rugged twist. It retains the same 652cc single-cylinder engine but gets changes in ergonomics, and tyres to suit a wider range of riding conditions. If you’re looking for a retro motorcycle that can handle bad roads and occasional trails, this could be a solid option. Check out more details of the BSA Scrambler 650 in our launch story.
The bike is available in Raven Black (Rs 3,24,950), Victor Yellow (Rs 3,32,950), and Thunder Grey (Rs 3,40,950), all ex-showroom.
Design and Build Quality

The Scrambler 650 gets a proper scrambler design with a high-mounted front fender, wide handlebar with a brace, fork gaiters, and a slightly taller stance. The round headlight, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and minimalist tail section keep the retro appeal intact, while details like block-pattern tyres, race number plate on the sides and sump guard enhance its rugged character.

In terms of quality, the bike feels well put together. The paint finish looks premium, metal parts feel solid, and the overall fit and finish are quite impressive. It manages to strike a good balance between classic styling and modern build quality.
Features
Safety Features
The bike comes equipped with disc brakes at both ends along with dual-channel ABS. It is also switchable, which allows for better control while riding off-road. There’s a traction control system too.

Convenience Features
The BSA Scrambler gets an LCD instrument cluster that displays speed, trip info, fuel level, and other essential data. The bike also features all-LED lighting. While it isn’t loaded with electronics, it offers just enough for everyday usability. We’d have liked it if it had a TFT console with turn-by-turn navigation.

Riding Posture & Comfort
Rider Comfort
The upright riding posture, wide handlebar, and well-cushioned seat should make it comfortable for long rides. The centre set footpegs ensure a relaxed stance, both in the city and on highways. That said, the 820mm seat might be a bit tall for shorter riders.

Pillion Comfort
The pillion seat should offer decent comfort, but it may not be that as spacious compared to the Gold Star 650. That said, it should still be manageable for short rides.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
The Scrambler 650 is powered by a 652cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 45PS, 55Nm, and comes paired to a 5-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch. It is tuned to deliver strong low-end and mid-range performance. Also more importantly, compared to the Gold Star 650, this one gets revised ratios as well as a larger sprocket for better low-end grunt.

City & Highway Performance
In the city, the engine should feel punchy and responsive, making overtakes easy. On the highway, it should cruise comfortably at triple-digit speeds without feeling stressed. The strong mid-range makes it well-suited for a variety of riding conditions.

Handling & Ride Quality
Brakes
It gets a 320mm front, and a 255mm rear disc brake setup (both with Brembo calipers) with dual-channel ABS. It should offer good stopping power and confidence.

Handling
The wider handlebar, a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel setup should make it feel stable yet manageable. While it won’t be as nimble as smaller bikes, it should still handle city traffic reasonably well. The dual purpose tyres may affect its overall handling and agility on smooth tarmac. At 208kg (kerb), this is quite a heavy motorcycle, and this could too affect its handling, especially in tricky trails.

Ride Quality
The suspension is tuned to handle rough roads better than a typical roadster. It should absorb bumps and broken patches with ease, making it suitable for Indian road conditions and light trails.

Competition Check

The BSA Scrambler goes up against the Royal Enfield Bear 650. If you’re keen on buying a scrambler, you may also look at smaller displacement single-cylinder alternatives including the Royal Enfield Scram 440, Yezdi Scrambler, and the Triumph Scrambler 400 X. Compared to these bikes, the BSA manages to offer its own distinctive riding experience, especially considering it’s a massive single-cylinder scrambler.

- This bike capable of performing well off roadBSA B65 Scrambler is one of the best bikes in the 650cc lineup. The robust and strong looks, 19-17 inch spoke wheels and Pirelli tyres make this bike capable of performing well off road. The 650cc power from the engine feels quite strong, and the raised mudguard also enhances its adventure-oriented look. Priced slightly higher than the Goldstar 650, this bike seems to be the perfect choice for those who are more stylistic in their riding game. Can't wait to see how it rides.Read More3 4
