2020 Benelli TNT 600: What To Expect?

What could the future of India’s most affordable inline-four motorcycle be?

What could the future of India’s most affordable inline-four motorcycle be?

The TNT 600 remains one of Benelli’s most popular models in India. It gives Indian motorcyclist an affordable ticket to own a sweet sounding, inline-four motorcycle while still looking big and butch. Currently, it meets all the norms but come 1 April 2020, the TNT 600’s engine will need to be tweaked to meet BS6 regulations, and given that it is sold in European markets as well, it will need to meet the upcoming Euro 5 laws as well. Leaked images of a new TNT 600 have surfaced online, which has led us to believe that this Benelli motorcycle will continue to exist even after the new laws come into effect. What’s new and why should you be excited for the next TNT 600? We jot down a few pointers:

A radical makeover

As seen in the new images, the motorcycle is set for a complete makeover with the overgrown muscles of the old bike now making way for a sharper, more toned look. The cuts add to the sharpness of the new design with the new fuel tank shroud extensions now housing the new LED turn indicators. The Transformers-inspired headlight compliments the fluorescent colour scheme quite well. However, as a whole, the TNT 600 still looks wholesome and large, something which has worked quite well in its favour.

Will pack a BS6-compliant engine

Another aspect that worked quite in the TNT 600’s favour is its engine. The 600cc inline-four motor  has a friendly and linear power delivery while churning out 86.24PS and 54.6Nm. To top it all, it comes with a soundtrack that gives you goosebumps every single time you wring open the throttle. We expect all of these to remain with the BS6 update. However, it would not surprise us if there was a slight dip in power with the new motor.

No change in foundations

It is unlikely that we will see any changes in the chassis or other cycle parts of the TNT 600. The bolted-on trellis frame might just see a new colour but apart from that there just seems to be nothing new. That means you will get the same fat 50mm USD fork, rear monoshock unit and front dual rotor-equipped braking system like the current bike. Switchable ABS will also be carried forward with this update.

Will continue to be the most affordable motorcycle with an inline-four motor

Currently, the TNT 600 comes with a price tag of Rs 6.20 lakh (ex-showroom India). No other motorcycle in this price bracket offer an inline-four cylinder engine. The next most affordable bike with a similar engine is the Suzuki GSX-S750, which costs Rs 1.30 lakh more. With the new updates, the TNT 600’s price could just go up by Rs 50,000. Even after this price increase, the TNT 600 will remain the most affordable motorcycle with an inline-four motor to be sold in India.
