The Splendor Pro takes the very successful Splendor formula and wraps it in a different design, colours and graphics. The front view of the bike is accentuated with a sharper headlamp unit and a slimmer windshield visor. The stylishness is carried over to the instrument cluster that now features a triple-pod cockpit style unit. Hero’s designers have also paid attention to the bike’s detailing, which is apparent from the stylish tail lights, the 3D Splendor emblem, new clear lens indicators and the chrome-finished exhaust muffler. The commuter is also quite comfortable to spend several hours in thanks to the long and well-padded saddle and the broad grab rails.
The Hero Splendor Pro is powered by a 97.2 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces a maximum power of 8.36PS @ 8000 rpm and maximum torque of 8.05Nm @ 5000 rpm. The engine is a refined unit and as per Hero, can offer a fuel efficiency of 90 kmpl. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 4-speed constant mesh gearbox.
Braking duties on the Splendor Pro are handled by drum brakes at both ends while a disc is not offered even as an option. While the front gets a 130mm unit, the rear features a 110mm unit. A comfortable ride quality was always a strong point for the Splendor and it is replicated with the Pro via telescopic forks at the front and 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear.
Buyers can choose from eight impressive colour options that include Cloud Silver, Candy Blazing Red, Black and Red, Black Purple, Black Monotone, Palace Maroon, Heavy Grey and Shield Gold. The Hero Splendor Pro kick-start variant is priced at Rs 49,598 while the self-start variant retails for Rs 51,476 (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi). Other bikes that compete with the Splendor Pro in terms of specifications and price include the Honda Dream series, the TVS Sport and the Bajaj Platina.
Design and Features
The Hero Splendor Pro is a cosmetically enhanced version of the venerable Splendor. The bike is adorned with smart graphic touches and a durable paint finish. It also gets a sharp and imposing headlamp unit and an aerodynamic windshield visor. Other style bits include stylish tail lamps, clear lens indicators, chrome finished exhaust muffler and a 3D Splendor logo. Coming to the instrument cluster, it gets a triple-pod cockpit-like assembly that is informative but not distracting. The long and wide seat of the bike coupled with broad grab rails promises plenty of comfort to both the rider and the pillion.
Engine and Performance
The Hero Splendor Pro features a very basic drum brake setup on both its wheels. Although a disc brake option would have been nice, the 130mm front and 110mm rear brakes do their job well. The bike’s suspension setup offers a supple and comfortable ride quality. It consists of a telescopic hydraulic suspension unit at the front and 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear.
Braking and Handling
Hero Splendor Pro is integrated with a purely reliable and prompt braking system consisting of front 130 mm drum brake unit and rear 110 mm drum brake unit. The 100 cc commuter is designed to display a smooth ride quality and a purely authoritative handling in accordance with the Indian road conditions. The suspension duties of the bike are met by its front telescopic hydraulic suspension unit and swing arm 5 step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear.
Safety and Features
Being a mass-market motorcycle that is built to a price, the Hero Splendor Pro doesn’t get much by the way of safety features. However, with the upcoming safety regulations that mandate every bike under 125cc to be equipped with a combined braking system, Hero should offer its Integrated Braking System (IBS) on the Splendor Pro soon.
