Whenever we talk about bikes in India, the most popular segment is 150cc and we all know why? But just to remind you, these bike are sportier, offers more power and most importantly, returns decent mileage. When you look into the market, you can see a lot of options. Most of the bike makers have at least one “Hero” in their line-up that keeps their numbers up and remains aspirational for potential buyers. Honda has two ‘Heroes’ - the Activa and the Unicorn. Both the vehicles have performed well in their respective segments. The company too has updated them well in time to remain in chartbusters.

Honda Unicorn was first introduced in the year 2005 and was the first one in the segment to get monoshock rear suspension. The bike was engineered by Honda’s R&D team in Osaka, Japan. Since its beginning in the country, it has always been known as a great performer on the road. The word “Unicorn” represents the legendary animal that has been described in antiquities. Known for its power and uniqueness, the name ‘Unicorn’ goes well with the Honda bike. It has everything that one can ask for in the 150cc segment. Let’s find out what Honda Unicorn is all about.

Engine Power and Performance:

The engine of the Unicorn is undoubtedly a game changer. As the name suggests, it houses 162.71cc, air-cooled, four-stroke engine that is mated to a 5-speed transmission. The engine produces 13PS of power and 14.6Nm of torque. The bike can easily cruise on the highway at speeds around 90kmph without any effort, which is quite impressive for a 160cc machine.

Style and Appearance:

Honda has done a complete makeover to its latest Unicorn when compared to its predecessor. It has a sportier headlamp along with a digital instrument console. The tank of the bike features a short angular shroud having 3D Honda Logo on it. Now, the seat of the motorcycle is slightly wider and longer and the company has built a new frame to fit the changes in the bike.

Ride and Handling:

The moment you swing your leg over the motorcycle, you will have the real fun, the engine of the bike comes alive with a meatier sound. The tall gear ratios allow you to ride pleasantly in the city and at high speeds on highways, you will feel the very little vibration. The good low and mid-range torque makes it easy for the bike to ride in the city and manoeuvres well in traffic. It has telescopic front suspension and 5-step adjustable mono-shock at the rear. In stock condition, the suspension is soft enough for city riding and if you wish to take it out for a mountain ride, you have the option to adjust it accordingly.

Safety Features: Coming to the safety of the rider, Honda has done quite an appreciable job in Unicorn. The company has given it a powerful headlight that illuminates the road during dark. The braking of a bike is responsible on Honda’s CBS (Combined Braking System) that automatically applies both the  brakes by pressing the rear brake pedal.

All in all, we can proudly say that Honda Unicorn 160R offers a stress-free ride in all the riding condition. You can check our complete Road Test Review of Honda Unicorn 160R.
