Bajaj Avenger Street 220 Highlights

08 January 2017: Taking forward the Avenger legacy of Bajaj in India is the Avenger Street 220. With almost every component dipped in matte black, the Street 220 looks dynamic and strong. The all-black matte finish can be seen over the headlight cowl, fuel tank, exhaust, handlebars, shock absorbers and multi-spoke alloy wheels. To complement the dark theme, the company has added chrome and red inserts to the new Street 220. There is a new Avenger logo as well embossed on the bike’s tank. The instrument cluster has also been updated which has a classic analogue meter. Mechanically, Bajaj has not done anything extraordinary other than the fact that the engine is now tuned to perform better at low and mid-range. With certain refinements done to the bike, it continues to underpin the same old Twin Spark DTS-i 219.9cc engine with peak power and torque outputs of 19.03PS at 8400rpm and 17.5Nm at 7000rpm respectively. The claimed mileage of the Street 220 is 45kmpl and has a top speed of 118kmph (claimed). The Avenger Street 220 is available only with self-start option and one colour option: Matte Black. In order to own this comfortable cruiser bike from Bajaj, you need to spare Rs 1,10,297 (On road, Delhi). It competes against the Suzuki Intruder 150. Read more...

Bajaj Avenger Street 220 Expert Review

Bajaj has updated the Avenger 220 series for 2018. The new bikes get a redesigned triangular headlamp with integrated DRL's and new integrated tail light. It also receives graphics similar to the Bajaj V. Also new is a fully digital circular instrument console. The Avenger Street 220, in keeping with its roadster styling, gets a smoked headlamp visor and rubber fork gaiters.

The Bajaj Avenger Street 220 offers comfortable riding stance, underpins a powerful engine and embraces a refreshed all-black colour theme which makes it even more enticing. The contrasting silver inserts here and there add to its stylish appeal big time. The bike has a Street control handlebar, low slung seat, multi-spoke alloy wheels dipped in matte black, a new black grab rail that provides significant support to the pillion. It gets a classic meter that completes the bike’s head-turning looks but hides a digital console inside.

The Avenger Street 220 comes with a wide rear tyre that helps the rider. Suspension duties are carried out by twin shock absorbers at the rear and telescopic forks at the front. With the same mechanical specs, power and torque outputs as earlier, the bike really shines around the speeds of 80 to 100kmph. .

The Avenger Street 220 is a popular ride among buyers who keep comfort on top of their consideration list when buying a motorcycle. The Street 220 offers just that. The bike’s laid-back riding position and apt positioning of handlebar make buyers drool over it.

With the matte black color scheme, the 220cc ride looks much plusher and premium. While the chrome inserts and red highlights on the fuel tank take the styling to an altogether new level. The all-black theme is spread across multi-spoke alloy wheels, headlamp cowl, rear grab rail, rubber front suspension forks bellows, fuel tank, engine cover and handlebars. While the contrasting silver bits can be seen on the exhaust, wheel rim tape and side panels. More attention-grabbing elements of the bike are round-shaped headlamp upfront, new Avenger insignia on the fuel tank, low slung seat with extra padding and wide rear tyre for enhanced stability.

The refreshed instrument cluster gets a classic look with an analogue speedometer and digital odometer and trip meter. The blue backlight of the display doubles its rich feel especially when viewed at night. The long low slung seat is extremely comfortable for both the rider as well as the pillion. The extra 20mm cushion padding makes the ride more comfortable and stress-free. Talking about the colours, the 220cc bike is available on the market with a single colour option: Matte Black. Dimensionally, it measures 2177mm long, 801mm wide and 1070mm high. Ground clearance stands at 169mm and wheelbase is around 1490mm.

The Avenger Street 220 is powered by an oil-cooled Twin Spark DTS-i 219.9cc engine that churns out a max power 19.03PS at 8,400 rpm and a peak torque of 17.5Nm at 7,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox that is claimed to yield a mileage of 45kmpl under mixed riding conditions and a top speed of 118kmph. Although the bike comes with same mechanical specifications, the company claims that the engine is more refined and tuned to perform better at low and mid-range. Plus, the NVH levels have also been improved.

Built on the Tubular Double Cradle frame, the Street 220 rides on telescopic anti-friction front forks and Twin shock absorbers at the rear. The suspension assembly is potent to bypass rough patches along the road, thereby, offering a smooth riding experience. The overall ride quality is good and the bike remains stable on varied terrains, thanks to its wide rear tyre and long wheelbase. However, due to its long wheelbase, its turning radius increases and manoeuvring becomes a task in traffic-ridden conditions.

On highways, it is a gem and you would enjoy cruising this premium Bajaj bike. On the braking front, there is 260mm disc at the front and 130mm drum at the rear. It sports a front wheel size of 17 inches that wraps around 90/90 tubeless tyre while at the rear it has 15-inch alloy wheel covered by 130/90 tubeless tyre.

Ensuring the safety of the rider are the front disc brake set up and anti-friction tubeless tyres. Although the bike lacks ABS (Anti-braking system), the included braking mechanism performs efficiently to add the sense of safety. The radial tubeless tyres offer a stable ride and make sure that they do not deflate at once in case of a puncture.

BikeDekho Verdict

A good option for anyone looking for an affordable and decently powered cruiser.
