Bajaj Avenger Street 220 Expert Review

June 15, 2017: Bajaj has reduced the ex-showroom prices on its models by upto Rs 4,600 as a means of passing on GST benefits to the customer. Bajaj Auto had introduced three new variants of Avenger family namely 220 Street, 220 Cruise and 150 Street. Street220 sees additions in the form of an all- black paint scheme with red highlights, mag wheels, black exhaust, black painted engine, new grab rail and a new instrument cluster. The bike gets its power by a 219.9cc, air-cooled motor that churns out a peak power of 19PS at 8,400rpm with a maximum torque of 17.5Nm at 7,500rpm. The bike is priced at Rs. 84,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Currently, the Avenger series hasn't got any competition in India.

June 15, 2017: Bajaj has reduced the ex-showroom prices on its models by upto Rs 4,600 as a means of passing on GST benefits to the customer. India has a limited market for the affordable cruisers and one of the most popular and affordable motorcycle in this segment is Bajaj Avenger 220. The company promotes the bike with a tagline- “Feel Like God”, which describes the comfortable design and power packed performance of the machine. The bike is inspired by the japanese auto make- Kawasaki’s Eliminator and looks much similar to it. However, there are lots of improvements in the latest Avenger model.

Bajaj Avenger was launched in January 2001 with a 180cc air-cooled, single-cylinder Kawasaki engine. Consequently the Kawasaki single was swapped with the native unbeaten 200cc DTS-i engine in 2007. Again the company replaced this mill with their flagship 220cc engine in July 2010, to increase the cruising range.

In its newest version, Bajaj Avenger 220 DTSi is one of the chief reasonably priced and powerful motorcycles existing in the Indian market today. The bike features 60/55W headlight bulb, long handlebars, less meander height, multi-spoke edge, long backrest for passenger and rectangular rear view mirrors. The instrument panel of the bike is analogous and the fuel gauge is integrated at the center of fuel tank along with the other indicators.

Bolted on a tubular double-downtube frame, Bajaj Avenger 220 has overall dimensions (length x height x width) of 2,195mm x 1,070mm X 750mm with a wheelbase of 1,475mm. Ground clearance of the bike sits at 169mm and it weighs 154 kg (without fly-screen).

It has 17” front and 15” rear, multi spoke, chrome plated wheels with 90/90 section front and 130/90 rear MRF Zapper tyres. The long wheelbase of of the bike with its box-section swing-arm, increases the stability of motorcycle. However, it also increases the turning radius, which could be little inconvenient during the heavy traffic conditions.

Bajaj Avenger is equipped with round headlamp, transparent windshield, chrome plated rear view mirrors and many other premium parts. All these features not only improves the styling of the motorcycle, but makes your ride comfortable and convenient.

The seating arrangement is superb and cozy with wider riding seat with a backrest cushion fixed to it. Bajaj Avenger has passenger footrest and foot-peg at both sides. The uncovered swing arm of the rear fork gives an elegant experience. The back side of Bajaj Avenger is heavier than other common bikes in India. The big brake light, round shaped turn indicators and chrome finished silencer lift the appearance.

The powerful 220cc engine of Bajaj Avenger with the re-configured exhaust system flings radiance on the bike’s fresh vitality and passion. The advantageous oil cooling that helps to sustain a stable oil temperature during stiff riding and high heat conditions is mated to a five speed gear transmission. The DTS-i engine belts out 18.8bhp of peak power at 8,400rpm and develops 17.5Nm of maximum torque at 7,000rpm. Bajaj Auto has further added one extra patented expertise to Bajaj Avenger that is “Exhaus-TEC” (torque expansion chamber). The technology ensures highest performance even at squat power-train and satisfying silencer sound. The minor rim assures improved acceleration which makes journey quite comfortable for long distances.

Bajaj Avenger cruiser bike has fuel efficiency of 35 km/ltr in city. The fuel tank capability of the bike is 14 liters with a reserve capacity of 3.4 liters. The utmost speed that Bajaj Avenger can achieve is 115 km/hr with a power rating of 17.5 Ps at 8000 rpm and 16.78 Nm at 6000 rpm. The cruiser bike can track the race of 0-60 km/hr in just 5.9 seconds.

Bajaj Avenger has superb brakes which work in an enormous approach. Both the shock absorbers of the motorcycle bear to furnish enjoyable riding experience. Large windshield averts gusty winds which normally snags the rider. The cruiser is equipped with front disc brake of 260mm which is hydraulically-operated disc brake and rear drum type brake which places it to the lead of the other cruisers.

Bajaj Avenger is empowered by telescopic fork at front with 140mm travel and the rear shocker is five way adjustable hydraulic type, triple rate spring with 90 mm travel. The rear shocker can be adjusted for five times which can be used on different terrains which makes it a versatile driving bike. Moreover, one can also do denser and flexible settings for a pillion rider as per the requirements. In both the settings, seating arrangement supports the shock absorber to have a comfy experience.

BikeDekho Verdict

A good option for anyone looking for an affordable and decently powered cruiser.
