Bajaj will soon launch the BS6-compliant Avenger Street 220 once the government lifts the COVID-19 lockdown. It's likely to be priced the same as the BS6 Avenger Cruise which retails at Rs 1,16,672 (ex-showroom Delhi). Select Bajaj dealerships have started accepting unofficial bookings for the Avenger Street 220 BS6 and Avenger Cruise 220 BS6. The Street 220 is available in two paint options, white and black.
In terms of features, it gets LED DRLs and a fully digital instrument console. Its BS6-compliant 220cc engine is likely to put out the same power and torque output as the Cruise 2020. The fuel-injected mill has been tuned to make 19.03PS at 8500rpm and 17.55Nm (up by 0.05Nm) at 7000rpm.. Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed gearbox.
Suspension duties are taken care of by a telescopic fork up front and twin shocks absorber at the rear. Braking is handled by the same 280mm disc (instead of the previous 260mm disc) at the front and a 130mm drum at the rear, with single-channel ABS as standard. In terms of competition, it goes up against the Suzuki Intruder 150.

The Bajaj Avenger 220 has been redesigned to keep it fresh for 2018. You now get a redesigned triangular headlamp with integrated DRL's and new integrated tail light. The bike also gets graphics similar to the Bajaj V and now comes in a new all-black colour theme. Specific to the Street 220 variant, it gets a smoked headlamp visor and rubber fork gaiters. New features include a fully digital circular instrument console.
Power is courtesy of an oil-cooled Twin Spark DTS-i 219.9cc engine that makes 19.03PS at 8,400 rpm and of 17.5Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Claimed fuel efficiency is 45kmpl. It sits on a tubular cradle frame with telescopic front and dual rear shock absorbers.
The Avenger Street 220 competes with the Suzuki Intruder 150 Fi that offers better refinement and handling but commands a higher retail price.
Design and Features
The Avenger Street 220 is a popular ride among buyers who keep comfort on top of their consideration list when buying a motorcycle. The Street 220 offers just that. The bike’s laid-back riding position and apt positioning of handlebar have found a lot of takers among Indian buyers..
With the matte black color scheme, the Avenger Street 220 looks much premium. The chrome inserts and red highlights on the fuel tank look good as well. The all-black theme is spread across multi-spoke alloy wheels, headlamp cowl, rear grab rail, rubber front suspension forks gaiters, engine and handlebars. Contrasting silver bits can be seen on the exhaust, wheel rim tape and side panels. The round-shaped headlamp with DRL's is an attention grabber.
The instrument cluster is digital now. The long low slung seat is extremely comfortable for both the rider as well as the pillion. The extra 20mm cushion padding makes the ride more comfortable and stress-free. Talking about the colours, the 220cc bike is available on the market with a single colour option: Matte Black. Dimensionally, it measures 2177mm long, 801mm wide and 1070mm high. Ground clearance stands at 169mm and wheelbase is around 1490mm.
Engine and Performance
The Avenger Street 220 is powered by an oil-cooled Twin Spark DTS-i 219.9cc engine that churns out a max power 19.03PS at 8,400 rpm and a peak torque of 17.5Nm at 7,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. that is claimed to yield a mileage of 45kmpl under mixed riding conditions and a top speed of 118kmph. Although the bike comes with the same mechanical specifications, the company claims that the engine is more refined and tuned to perform better at low and mid-range. Plus, the NVH levels have also been improved.
Braking and Handling
The Street 220 gets a tubular cradle frame and rides on telescopic anti-friction front forks and twin shock absorbers at the rear. Overall ride quality is good and the bike remains stable on varied terrains, thanks to its wide rear tyre and long wheelbase. However, due to its long wheelbase, maneuvering becomes a task in traffic-ridden conditions. It hower is quite comfortable for long highway rides.
On the braking front, there is 260mm disc at the front and 130mm drum at the rear. It sports a front 17-inch wheel that wraps around 90/90 tubeless tyre while at the rear it has 15-inch alloy wheel covered by a 130/90 tubeless tyre.
Safety and Features
It gets a front disc brake though it misses on ABS. The radial tubeless tyres offer a stable ride and make sure that they do not deflate at once in case of a puncture.
