Thanks to the overwhelming response for its existing R and FZ series bikes that force the company to launch a new supersports bike in 125cc segment. The bike was, at first, launched in the year 2008 in overseas market. Since launching the Yamaha R125, it has got several upgradations time and again.

The bike was, at first, launched in the year 2008 in overseas market. Since launching the Yamaha R125, it has got several upgradations time and again.

The Yamaha R125 which is available in overseas market has been loaded with a 124.66cc displacement, liquid cooled, SOHC, single cylinder powerplant. This compact but sporty engine is capable of delivering 15 PS (14.5 bhp) of maximum power at 9,000 rpm and 12.2 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm. The fuel injected machine incorporates six-speed gearbox. In view to achieve greater performance and rigidity, it is equipped with a Deltabox chassis, aluminium swing arm and five-spoke lightweight alloy wheels. Yamaha R125 has been blessed with 292 mm front and 230 mm rear disc brakes.

The Yamaha YZF R125 possesses somewhat the same body style and stance as higher R series bikes like Yamaha YZF R6 and iconic Yamaha YZF R1. The front face and rear view of the bike are borrowed from the bigger R series Yamaha bikes. One can see the copied items such as dual headlights, compact tail side view and the low front face.

Mileage/Average/ Fuel Economy

Yamaha YZF R125 is expected to be launched in India with the same engine specifications that powers overseas model. The mill will be liquid cooled, single cylinder, SOHC with a displacement of 124.6cc. The powerplant coupled with 6 speed transmission might produces 15 PS of top power and 12.2 Nm of peak torque. The fuel tank of the bike would be of 13.8 litres with a 1.15 litres of reserve. At this point of time, the calculated fuel efficiency on Indian roads is to be 40 kmpl. Compact fuel injection system is responsible for better fuel economy.

Colours

The Yamaha R125 is available in four colours viz, Burning Blue , Sports White , Impact Yellow and Midnight black. And the bike is to be introduced in India with the same colour scheme. The body colour is painted at full front fender, fuel tank and rear side panels. Only in burning blue shade, the air scoops come in body colour and white while rest of the body hues have white colour air scoops.

Acceleration and Pick up

The Yamaha R125 runs a four stroke, liquid cooled, single cylinder, SOHC, fuel injected mill with a displacement of 124.6cc. The compact but powerful engine pumps out awesome 15 PS of peak power at 9,000 rpm and belts out 12.2 Nm of maximum torque at 8,000 rpm. The enhanced power output is smartly used by six-speed transmission. Superb acceleration is also an added result. Whereas the claimed top-speed is around 135 kmph. Due to its splendid power and acceleration, it is known as leader of the class.

Appearance

Existing Yamaha YZF R125 in overseas market is younger sibling of R series bikes. The Yamaha 125 has similar dual headlights, full fairing, stance, mid-size silencer etc. Moreover, lower front stance and small tail side view are borrowed from higher-end R series bikes. In India the same bike is supposed to be introduced. The front face of the bike is aggressive with dual headlamp cluster. A large transparent windshield is fitted on the headlamps. Either side of the windshield, mounted rear view mirrors are placed in black colour. The sharp nose of the Yamaha R125 resembles owl's face. The handlebars are mounted on the front fork. Unlike the now available Indian bikes, the front fender is in body colour. Front turn indicators are placed at airscoops that add to its macho look. The full sized air scoops have the logo's of the company and the model in bold fonts. The fuel tank of the bike is raised almost upto handlebars.

The dashboard of Yamaha R125 is digital. It is comprised of a round dial and rectangular shaped cluster. Split-up seats are fitted for rider and pillion. The chain is left open for sporty appearance. The rear side view is awesome and dam sporty. Spoke alloy wheels along with disc brakes add to the beauty of the machine.

Comfort

The Yamaha R125 is a complete sports bike that everything which is desirable in a true sports machine. Moreover, the stance is very sporty whether it is handlebars or seating arrangement. The rider seat is compact and meant for the rider only. The pillion seat is very small and mounted on rear side panels. Foot pegs are placed lower for both rider and pillion. The suspension system of the Yamaha R125 helps to feel ultimate comfort at any speed and any terrain. The rear monocross fork is regarded as the best in the auto industry. Disc brakes at each end ensure instant stopping.

Dimensions

The Yamaha YZF R125 has a number of similar R series type features and cosmetic. Although, the overall dimension is less than its elder brothers. The overall height of the Yamaha R125 is 970mm, width 660mm and length is 2015mm. It has a ground clearance of 155mm whereas the kerb weight is 138 kg. Yamaha R125 has a longer wheelbase of 1355mm. Interestingly, the saddle height is 818mm.

The Yamaha YZF R125 has got wonderful mill under the it. The engine size is compact but results are remarkable. The engine specifications are four-stroke, single cylinder, 4 valves, SOHC, liquid cooled, fuel injected mill that belts out 15 PS of maximum power at 9,000 rpm and pumps out 12.2 Nm of top torque at 8,000 rpm. The power and torque from the smart engine is used smoothly by its six-speed gearbox. The 4 valve single cylinder head is responsible for better intake and exhaust efficiency that enhance performance. In view to get superb throttle response, a compact fuel injection system is loaded.

The Yamaha R125 has been blessed with funky wheels and tyres. Ten spoke lightweight wheels are 17 inch long that offer better grip on road and avoid skidding. The tyre specifications would be 100/80-17 M/C (front) and 130/70-17 M/C at rear. The tyres have more rubber in the segment which ensure high level of traction and firmness.

Suspension

The Yamaha R125 has been equipped with advanced suspensions at both end. The front fork is telescopic type (wheel travel 130mm). The wheel travel is 20mm more than other bike models in the segment. In addition to this, the rear shock is swingarm monocross type with a wheel travel of 125mm. These full-sized shock absorbers helps to handle the bike with ease.

Handling and Control

With the help of various advanced systems, handling the Yamaha YZF R125 becomes very easy. The braking system of the machine matches to supersports bikes. The bike is provided with both side disc brakes. The front brake is having single disc and the diameter is 292mm. This large brake ensure control over different speeds with the support of twin-pot caliper. The rear single disc brake is comprised of a 230mm diameter. Apart from the braking system, sophisticated suspension system offer better handling and rider comfort.
