Ultraviolette X47 Crossover: Top 5 Features Explained

The Ultraviolette X47 Crossover is a feature-packed electric motorcycle, which gets things that we usually see on cars, that too at an introductory price of Rs 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom)! But how do these features work, and are they really that useful? We give you a detailed breakdown here!

Radar Alerts

One of the most interesting features this bike gets is the rear-facing radar with 270 degree of coverage. So while you’re riding in busy traffic, this system will give you overtake and lane change alerts via telltale lights on the mirrors and flashing light on the console.

It also gives rear collision warnings via the console and the turn indicators. The console flashes red giving a warning to the rider if the vehicle behind comes too close, too quickly. It also flashes both sides of the rear turn-indicators, warning the rider who is approaching the bike too fast, letting them know to slow down or brake.

Dual-Dashcams

Riders can also get a dual-dashcam setup as an optional extra, and this will record your rides at a 1, 3 or 5 minute-long video duration. The video will be displayed on a second screen that is mounted above the console, and riders can cycle through front and rear views.

This feature will be helpful in making sure that the rider is able to have a record of their rides, without having to invest in a helmet mounted action camera. The footage will be saved on the bike’s onboard 256GB storage. The brand is currently working on integrating the on-board camera with the dedicated smartphone app, so we’ll have a clearer idea once the deliveries begin in October.

Regenerative Braking

The Ultraviolette X47 Crossover also gets 9-levels of regenerative braking. This system allows riders to slow down by rolling off the throttle. It simulates engine braking on a conventional petrol powered motorcycle, and feels like a useful addition to the overall package as you end up using the brakes less frequently and rely more on regenerative braking.

The bigger advantage of this system is that every time the e-bike slows down, it uses the deceleration to charge the battery a bit. So every time you roll down a hill without applying the throttle or times when you let go of the throttle, the system charges the battery. Now, this doesn’t mean you can recharge the bike completely just by using this system, but will help in slightly improving the overall range.

On-Board Charger

Ultraviolette has also offered an onboard charger as an optional addition. This charger eliminates the need to carry the charging brick with you everywhere. All you need to carry is  a simple cable which you can easily put in your bag or even in your pant pocket.

The 1.6kW onboard charger charges the bike from 20 percent to 80 percent in just 2 hours and 40 minutes, and a full charge in 4 hours. This is a bit faster compared to the standard portable charger which takes 3 hours to charge from 20 percent to 80 percent and 5 hours for a full charge. 

The charging times may not be massively different, but the convenience of the onboard charger makes it worth considering.

Traction Control & Switchable ABS

Ultraviolette claims the X47’s motor produces 610Nm torque at the wheel, and 100Nm at the motor. To keep the bike in control, it also gets some much needed safety features including a traction control system and a switchable ABS. 

The traction control system will help in improving rider safety to a great extent. In electric bikes all the torque from the motor is available from the get-go and this might be a bit intimidating for riders who are just starting out. The 4-level traction control system will help in preventing wheel slips by cutting off power to the rear wheel. This should help make it easier for newer riders to ride with more confidence.

The switchable ABS is another nice addition, which will help the bike perform better offroad. The system will allow riders to turn-off ABS intervention at the rear wheel, allowing riders to perform controlled slides if they’re skilled enough. Note that you cannot turn off ABS completely, and the one up front always stays on for safety.
