Two Japanese quarter-litre motorcycles go head to head. Which one trumps the other in the battle of performance?

Suzuki is the latest manufacturer to enter the quarter-litre segment with the all-new Gixxer SF 250. However, it’s not the only Japanese bike maker in this segment, because Yamaha has been in this sector for quite some time now. So which one trumps the other in real-world situations? We find out.

Right from the word go, the Gixxer SF 250 is quicker to 60kmph and 100kmph as well. Although the Gixxer SF 250 is 4kg heavier than the Fazer 25, it compensates it with an extra 5.6PS on tap. The 249cc mill seen on the Gixxer SF 250 is an all-new unit, which is purely oil-cooled. Whereas the 249cc air-cooled powerplant in the Fazer 25 has been around for quite some time now.

Over here, numbers could’ve been at par considering that both are equipped with dual-channel ABS setups, but the Gixxer SF 250 performed this test on a wet surface, thus explaining its poor performance in this particular segment. We are pretty sure that in the right conditions, the Gixxer SF 250 could’ve performed well.

Fuel efficiency:

|
City |
37.5kmpl |
41.3kmpl |
|
Highway |
40.95kmpl |
32.9kmpl |
If your commute is limited within the city, the Fazer 25 would be the right one for you. In our test, the Yammie delivered an impressive 41.3kmpl in the city and with a 14-litre fuel tank, you have more than 570km of range!
However, the Gixxer SF 250 trumps over the Fazer 25 when it comes to highway fuel efficiency. Thanks to an extra cog, the motorcycle can not only easily do triple-digit speeds, but it delivers 40.95kmpl while doing that! A win-win situation then.
