If you haven’t heard of Skully then you’ve missed out on one of the biggest advances in motorcycle helmets made in the last few years. Only dreamt about and seen in movies, Skully has managed to make a heads-up display (HUD) system which is integrated in to the helmet. Skully intends to introduce a fully integrated, standalone helmet system that internally incorporates the HUD display tech, in addition to other features. In addition to normal HUD information features such as turn-by-turn navigation, smart phone integration, and Bluetooth connectivity, the Skully AR-1 features a 180-degree rear-view camera that gives the rider a digital representation of what’s going on behind them.

The company was initially supposed to release the helmet in late 2014. Finally acknowledging their tardiness to its 2,000 customers who pre-booked, Skully has released a video explaining its activities, and that the company is on-track for its new delivery date, before the end of this year. This update from Skully is encouraging, as we’ve been waiting to see more technology come into the helmet space.
