The Spanish car manufacturer announces its plans to foray into the electric two-wheeler business
- Seat is owned by the Volkswagen Group, which also owns Ducati.
- The electric scooter will be unveiled on November 19.
- Seat has plans to launch a 125cc-equivalent electric motorcycle too.
Spanish car manufacturer Seat has announced its plans to debut in the two-wheeler segment and has teased its first electric scooter too. The electric scooter will be unveiled on November 19 in Barcelona.
As you can see, the teaser image hints at quite a sporty design language. While Seat hasn’t revealed any technical details about the scooter, expect it to offer performance equivalent to a 100cc scooter. We expect it to have features like swappable lithium-ion batteries, keyless ignition and app connectivity. SEAT developed this concept in collaboration with Barcelona-based electric two-wheeler brand Silence.
The production version of the scooter will be sold to both private customers and ride-sharing platforms. Seat says Barcelona has the most motorcycles per capita so it is pretty evident that the brand is targeting its home market first. Expect Seat to expand to other European countries later. It is unlikely to be launched in India as its car arm itself isn’t present in the country.
Interestingly, Seat had already announced earlier that it would take charge of its parent company, Volkswagen Group’s “Micromobility Strategy,” in early 2018. This strategy essentially consists of devising ways to improve urban commutes using environmentally friendly vehicles. As a part of this business plan, Seatunveiled the Minimó concept electric car and launched the SEAT eXS KickScooter in 2018. Seat aims to further this strategy now with the planned launch of the electric scooter and the motorcycle.
