Meet The Yingang YG250 Retro Bike, China’s Answer To The Honda CB350RS

The Chinese market is full of exciting motorcycles, and one such bike is the neo-retro Yingang YG250 Legend. Interestingly, the exact same bike, only with a few cosmetic tweaks, is also sold in Malaysia as the GPX Legend 250.

That out of the way, let’s see what the bike gets:

The YG250 Legend is a charmer -- from the round headlamp and indicators to the indented fuel tank, it makes its retro nature known.

Meanwhile, adding modernity to the package is the round fully digital LCD, along with ABS, alloy wheels, USD fork, and blacked-out engine components.

The Yingang YG250 gets easy-going ergonomics like a straight handlebar, a long single-piece seat, and mid-set footpegs -- all of which should make it quite comfy. Add to this its (dry) weight of 147kg, the 790mm seat height, and 180mm ground clearance, and the YG250 seems suitable even for Indian roads.

And topping all this is a counter-balanced 250cc twin-cylinder motor belting out 16PS and 15Nm. The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox and has a claimed top speed of 120kmph. We think the performance on tap is rather underwhelming, especially given that it is a twin-cylinder motor.

Yingang has priced the YG250 at 13,800 Yuan (Rs 1.60 lakh), making it a value-for-money offering. Not to forget, it undercuts every retro bike in India at its price point. However, we'd be left short-changed because of its performance (or the lack of it).

People tell me that I'm a lil' too cuckoo about two-wheelers and I can't seem to disagree.
