A few years back, the entry-level and mid-size performance motorcycle market were not that popular in India. Then the Austrian automaker- KTM, partnered with Indian manufacturer- Bajaj. They entered the Indian market with the 200 and 390 Duke twins and shook up the market of performance bikes in the country. The reason behind their success is not only the highly competitive pricing but the level of quality at that cost as well. After looking at the success of its street models, the company decided to bring track focused sport bikes based on the same platform and the formula worked again. So, what next?

Now, the company is looking to enter in to the Adventure touring segment in India and will compete with the newly launched Royal Enfield Himalayan. According to sources, Bajaj is planning to bring the 390 cc and 200 cc KTM Adventure motorcycles to India.

The upcoming KTM Adventure bikes will be based on the existing engine platforms in India the company could bring both 200cc and 390cc models but we think that bringing in the 390cc Adventure would make more sense based on its intended use. Styling of the motorcycles will be inspired from the KTM 1190 Adventure. These motorcycles could be unveiled anytime soon, may be even within a months time.

Sources have also confirmed that Bajaj Auto has developed a new adventure bike platform under the KTM umbrella and they will be manufactured at their plant in Chakan.

The KTM adventure bikes are almost ready. Although it is not sure which engine options will come first.

In 2012, Stefan Pierer, CEO and chairman of the executive board of KTM AG said, “The 390 390 Duke is coming, fully faired versions RC 200 and RC 390 and the so-called tour-purpose model are also coming. We will have the full model range that can settle in the Asian markets. We will focus more on the higher end, keeping the prime content of KTM very sharp, its ready-to-race attributes, its best performing engine, unique design different from others.”
