The Australian rookie rider Jack Miller registered his first win in the MotoGP at the 2016 Dutch GP in Assen.

Looking at the weather conditions, it was believed that the 2016 Dutch MotoGP will be full of fun and excitement and so it was. The race was red flagged on the 14th lap and a 12 lap restart was organised from the respective grid positions of the riders. The restart had water flowing on the track  and changed the entire race. Made it all the more interesting and exciting.

Andrea Dovizioso secured the pole position in the qualifying session followed by Valentino Rossi and Scott Redding on the front row. However, Rossi took the lead as the lights went off, while Dovizioso and Pol Espargaro followed on second and third positions, respectively. But the Italian rider failed to maintain the pace and lost his position to Yonny Hernandez in the third lap. Danilo Petrucci did well, despite the rough conditions and passed Marquez to secure the fourth place.

There was already a lot of drama on the track, courtesy the rains and suddenly it started to pour heavily and Yonny Hernandez became the first casualty of this abrupt change. With this, Dovi took the lead followed by Rossi, who was then pulled back to the third place by Petrucci. The riders struggled as the weather deteriorated further. With each passing lap, the excitement was getting bigger and finally the red flag came out on lap 14.

The race decided to restart from the grid position as a 12 lap race, and again, The Doctor took the lead with Dovizioso following him. While Marquez was up in the third place, his team-mate Pedrosa crashed-out of the race after the restart. Other riders who joined Pedrosa were Dovizioso and Petrucci and that provided Rossi with a considerable lead over Marquez. However, Rossi was also tricked by the weather and lost his front with 10 laps remaining. He couldn’t start his M1 after the crash and Marquez grabbed the lead. However, it was just for two laps as rookie rider Jack Miller clamped it with eight laps remaining.

Despite some of the best riders being crashed-out, the entertainment was still on as Redding tried hard and passed Aleix Espargaro, securing the third place with just three laps remaining. Marquez rode cautiously as he had to finish the race in order to maintain his lead on the scoreboard. Miller also maintained good control till the end that  resulted in his debut MotoGP win. He celebrated the same with a stunning wheelie across the finish line. Marquez secured the second position, maintaining a lead by 24 points over Lorenzo and 42 points over Rossi's score. With his first MotoGP win, Miller became the second Australian rider to win the MotoGP after Casey Stoner.
