If Hero Electric launches the bike, it will be its first production electric motorcycle

  • The spied bike comes with an inverted front fork and a rear monoshock.
  • Features disc brake on both ends.
  • Motor is linked to a belt-drive, which should ensure plenty of torque at the wheel.

An electric motorcycle that’s reported to be from Hero Electric has been spotted ahead of its debut at the Auto Expo 2020. Expect Hero Electric to launch the motorcycle at the show. If it does, it will be the brand’s first production electric motorcycle in the country. The electric bike is likely to be priced around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom).

The motorcycle features a streetfighter design language with wide handlebars, muscular-looking tank shrouds, and a split seat configuration. If you take a closer look, you’ll notice the rear brake reservoir is on the left handlebar, indicating the left lever is for the rear disc brake. Consequently, the motorcycle will be gearless like the Revolt RV 400. The bike gets a belt drive with a large pulley to ensure ample torque at the wheel.

It’s pretty much a given that the motorcycle will pack modern lithium-ion batteries. We wouldn’t be surprised if the motorcycle comes with removable ones since that seems to be the simplest way to reduce range anxiety. Expect the motorcycle to come with a claimed range of about 100km.

The upcoming Hero Electric motorcycle rides on inverted front fork and a rear monoshock. The motorcycle appears to pack a petal disc up front and the tyres look pretty meaty too. It is likely that the front end uses a 100-section rubber and the rear a 130-section tyre.  Another interesting aspect is the switchgear, which appears to be different than the conventional ones. The indicators also appear to be LED units.

Once launched, the bike will go head-to-head against Revolt RV 400, which is currently the only electric motorcycle sold in India. However, this segment is set to be populated soon as this year’s expo is expected to witness multiple electric bike launches from different brands.
