Does it prove to be the perfect scooter for all kinds of riders? Let us answer that for you
The scooter market is competitive, there is a variety of options in the market catering to different sorts of riders. Keeping that in mind, Hero has launched an updated version of the Destini 125 for 2024, and it has a slightly different approach. The new scooter gets a significant update over the previous one and aims to be a two-wheeler for all types of riders. So, while we were in Goa for its first ride, we tested out if it actually suits all kinds of riders, and here’s what we think.
Design
This is where the 2024 Destini 125 has made the most improvement. While the silhouette of the scooter stays the same as before, the new styling elements make it look a lot more premium than before. The LED headlight and DRL are now redesigned and look quite attractive as they stand out in the market with a neo-retro appeal. The side panel design has also been refreshed and gets more clean lines.
The tail section is now sleeker and features a H-shaped LED taillight. Just above that, it gets turn indicators that extend outwards and give a larger appeal. As of now, it looks good, but there is a slight possibility that you might get bored with this part.
Lastly, while the scooter now comes with flashy colour options, the quality of the paint could be better.
Performance
For a smoother riding experience, Hero has reworked the automatic transmission on the Destini 125, and it does make a difference. You get a nice and smooth riding experience, and it also aids in a claimed fuel efficiency of 59kmpl, which is pretty nice, but does it deliver that much? That is something we shall find out when we do a complete road test of the scooter.
The engine and power and torque outputs are the same as before – 125cc air-cooled unit making 9.12PS at 7,000rpm and a peak torque of 10.4Nm at 4,000rpm. Despite not being the sportiest or the peppiest, the Desitini 125 delivers a decent performance. The torque is well spread out and offers a good pull from the very beginning. Even at the higher spectrum, you have enough pull to make quick overtakes and to ride around the city with a pillion.
Comfort & Handling
Now it is a scooter, you want comfort, and that is exactly what the Destini 125 does really well. The riding position is straight and upright, handlebars are appropriately high to ensure no stress on your arms or your back. Oh, and the seat too is pretty long and accommodates tall people along with a comfortable pillion, and is well cushioned. With the new update, the position and the size of the cubby hole have been reduced, which means that there is more space for taller riders’ knees.
The suspension too works perfectly and gives the optimum comfort on all kinds of terrains, potholes, undulations and more. Additionally, even with a pillion, the ride quality is really plush. With the longer wheelbase, the Destini 125 feels pretty stable, and the 12-inch wheels make a good handler. Despite the 115kg kerb weight, the scooter feels light and manouverable.
In the ZX and ZX+ variants, the Destini 125 comes with a front disc brake. Sadly the initial bite is not that great and you have to go harder on the brake levers. However, the stopping power is quite decent for the performance.
Features
A new digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity that shows call/SMS alerts and turn-by-turn navigation. Even under harsh sunlight, the console is visible and has a clean layout displaying all the necessary information on the go. Another highlight is that it gets a backlight starter switch, which more than anything looks pretty cool and premium. Oh and that reminds me, the switchgear is new too, and offers a premium appeal as well.
The storage on the Destini 125 is not the most impressive especially compared to its rivals like the TVS Jupiter 125, with its massive underseat boot. Even the apron-mounted glove box is small but good enough for storing handy objects like a phone, umbrella, or a small bag of fruits. Just above the cubby hole is a USB charging port, which makes for a convenient spot.
Should You Buy The Hero Destini 125?
Sure, the Destini 125 has received a major upgrade, making it more comfortable, feature-packed, convenient and even desirable and should attract a wider set of customers. That said, it will be the most appealing to the older generation and to mostly office-going people who want something that’s stylish and pretty hassle-free. For younger riders who are looking for something sporty or something that looks really good on the road, there are better alternatives in the market.
