Nearly 55 percent of the bike's parts are 3D-printed from recycled materials

Tarform Motorcycles, a Brooklyn-based bikemaker, has unveiled the Racer edition of its Luna electric bike. The motorcycle is also available in a Scrambler edition. Both variants retail at $24,000 (Rs 17.5 lakh). Sure, the premium is high for an offering like this, but there’s a lot it packs.

The new Racer edition of the Tarform Luna has a traditional cafe-racer design, evident from the circular headlamp and sleek hanging tail section. The bike is handcrafted by Tarform engineers in Brooklyn, USA, and made exclusively on order.

Complementing the futuristic design is the bike’s modern feature list, including a digital circular instrument cluster with an HD display, all-LED lighting, three riding modes, a 180-degree rear view camera, keyless ignition, and smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth. An interesting addition to this package is Tarform’s ‘Sonic Aura’ feature, a pure acoustic experience for an unmistakable presence, similar to what the Revolt RV400 packs.

The Tarform Luna draws power from an 11.8kW battery pack with a peak power output of around 56PS. The company claims the bike can reach 200kmph and accelerate to 100kmph in just 3.8 seconds. Even the claimed charging time is as quick as the bike itself -- zero to 80 percent in just 50 minutes!

The battery pack is housed in a steel trellis frame sprung on a beefy USD fork and monoshock. Braking duties are performed by single disc brakes shod with six-piston calipers. The only snag in this overall impressive package is its 200kg weight.

Since the bike is made on order in Brooklyn, we don’t expect to see it on our shores. The only way we might is if someone has enough cash to spend Rs 17.5 lakh on the bike and then bear the freight and customs duties to bring it here, which is a little too excessive.
