TVS updated the Apache RTR 160 4V earlier this year, and Bajaj recently hit back with the new Pulsar N160 S and N160 SS. Both brands are now loading up their top variants with tech. We're comparing the range-topping Apache RTR 160 4V (Dual Channel ABS with USD fork), priced at Rs 1,38,190, against the Pulsar N160 SS costing Rs 1,42,582 (both ex-showroom, Delhi).

The assist functionality in the slip-and-assist clutch helps in easier clutch lever action, whereas the slipper feature reduces rear-wheel hop during aggressive downshifts. Pulsar’s Google Maps mirroring should be a lot more convenient to use than turn-by-turn navigation on the Apache. The extra off-road riding mode on the Pulsar will come in handy if you’re tackling broken roads. That said, the Pulsar gets electronic throttle control over the Apache’s cable, which should ensure better throttle control. The USB charging port will also help in keeping your devices topped up. Adjustable levers help in changing the reach of the levers as per the size of your hand.
Verdict
On paper, both bikes cover the important safety basics, with dual-channel ABS and traction control available on their top variants. The bigger differences come down to the features each bike adds on top of that. The Pulsar N160 SS’s Google Maps navigation will make it considerably more convenient for daily navigation in the city; not to mention finer control over the throttle with the ride-by-wire system. So purely in terms of features on paper, the Pulsar N160 SS gets the upper hand.
