Along with affordable scooters, electric motorcycles are coming your way too!

We got to know from Ather Energy’s recent filings that the EV maker is planning to launch new products and cater to a much wider audience than ever before. Let’s have a look at what Ather plans to do in the near future:

    More Affordable Scooters!

Currently, Ather’s most adorable electric scooter is the Rizta, which is priced at Rs 1,14,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). This will soon change as the manufacturer plans to launch more affordable electric scooters in India. A new scooter platform is in the works and is named ‘EL Platform’. The new scooter platform will get a completely new chassis, powertrain and electronics than the current 450 platform. The filing also mentions that the new EL platform will spawn multiple scooters. The major update is that the new EL platform will feature an LFP (lithium-iron phosphate) battery pack rather than the current NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide) battery packs. The LFP batteries are cheaper to manufacture and source.

What this means is that the upcoming scooter platform will be much more affordable than the current range of electric scooters. Ather currently does not have a single product under the Rs 1 lakh price point, so this might change soon. The new, more affordable scooters are said to be in the final stages of testing and are expected to launch in India in early next year. We may see the first affordable scooter by March 2026, and Ather might launch other scooters from the same platform phase-wise, until March 2027.

    Electric Motorcycles To Follow

There is good news for enthusiasts too! Ather is working on their ‘Zenith’ electric motorcycle platform being made to target the 125cc to 300cc motorcycle segment. The electric motorcycle segment is still in its early stages, so Ather also seems to be taking its time by focusing on affordable scooters first, and then electric motorcycles.

The first of the electric motorcycles from this platform is likely to be a sporty commuter equivalent to a 125cc petrol-powered bike, and could be launched by March 2027. Other bikes from the Zenith platform will be launched one-by-one after that, until March 2028.

    BikeDekho Says

Both the next generation of electric scooters and motorcycles will not just be made for India, but for other export markets as well. Ather Energy is known to walk the talk and make reliable products that work consistently well in the real world. With the subsidies going away, it’s even more important for the brand to come up with cost-effective measures, and Ather’s current plans line up with this expectation rather well.
