How much would you have to shell out for the electric Chetak?

[Update: Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter Launched In India]

  • The electric Chetak is likely to be launched on January 14.
  • Gets a range of 95km in Eco mode.
  • Will come with a 3-year/50,000km warranty and a battery life of 70,000km.

Bajaj could launch its first all-electric scooter, the Chetak in India on January 14. So, how much do you have to shell out to bring home an iconic name like Chetak? Well, there’s no official word on the price yet, but we expect the e-Chetak to retail around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom Pune).

When launched, it could be one of the most premium-looking and feature-rich scooters in that price bracket. It gets LED lights and dynamic indicators, an electronic key fob, riding modes, a USB port, a start/stop button, and a fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity.

The scooter is powered by a 4kW motor and an IP76-rated lithium-ion battery, which can be charged in around 4.5-5 hours. Bajaj isn’t offering a fast charger for the e-Chetak as it believes it will deteriorate the batteries a lot faster. The Pune-based bike maker claims the Chetak will offer a range of 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode.

The all-electric Chetak will go up against the Ather 450, which is priced at Rs 1.13 lakh (on-road Bengaluru). However, Ather has added a new variant of the 450 called the, err.. 450X. Apart from the name, here’s what else we know about Ather’s new scooter.
