2021 Yamaha MT-125 Breaks Cover

The 2021 iteration comes with a slightly larger fuel tank and new colours

The 2021 Yamaha MT-125 comes with three all-new colour schemes. The slightly bigger fuel tank has resulted in increased kerb weight. Mechanicals have remained unchanged.

Yamaha Europe has taken the wraps off the 2021 Yamaha MT-125. The motorcycle comes in three all-new colour schemes: Storm Fluo, Icon Blue and Tech Black. But that’s not all, Yamaha has also slightly increased the fuel tank capacity from 10 litres to 11 litres. This has resulted in the kerb weight going up from 140kg to 142kg.

Other than these changes, the rest of the bike has remained untouched. It continues to be powered by a Euro 5-compliant 124cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor churning out 14.9PS at 10,000rpm and 11.5Nm at 8000rpm. It offers a claimed mileage of 47.6kmpl, which isn’t all that bad for a performance-oriented 125cc bike. Like its bigger brother, the Yamaha MT-15, this one too gets Variable Valve Actuation for a good balance of low-end grunt and top-end drive. The motor is mated to a 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch. The powerplant sits inside a diamond-type frame, linked to a 41mm inverted front fork and a rear monoshock with aluminium swingarm.

The European-spec Yamaha MT-125 employs Michelin tyres on both ends, measuring 100-section up front and 140-section at the rear. Unlike the India-spec MT-15, this one does not get a radial rear tyre. Braking is via a 292mm front disc with radial caliper and a 220mm rear disc, with dual-channel ABS as standard.

The India-spec MT-15 misses out on the inverted fork, aluminium swingarm and the front radial caliper. Yamaha is unlikely to add them as updates to the India-spec bike. However, expect the Japanese bikemaker to introduce smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation in the next update.
