After getting an enthusiastic response at the 2016 Auto Expo, the all-new Triumph Thruxton R cafe racer has now been launched in India at Rs 10.9 lakh.

2016 Triumph Thruxton R Launch

First unveiled in October 2015 along with the other new models in the company's “modern classic” range, the Triumph Thruxton R made its debut in India at the 2016 Auto Expo this year. The bike got a huge response at the event, and now, it has been launched in the country at a price tag of Rs 10.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company has already launched two of the new “modern classic” motorcycles in the country -- the Street Twin and the Bonneville T120, which are doing well in the market. Triumph is also offering a customised Street Twin through its dealerships, christened "Brat Tracker," and it comes with warranty like a stock motorcycle.

Coming back to the new launch, the cafe racer-styled 2016 Triumph Thruxton R is all-new in terms of both design and performance. It sits on a completely redesigned platform that has been used in the entire new range of Triumph modern classic bikes. However, the chassis has been tweaked even further in the Thruxton to work better with the higher performance of the new 1200cc 'high-power' engine. The liquid-cooled, 8-valve, parallel-twin motor has been tuned to deliver a peak torque of 112Nm at 4950rpm, which is 62 per cent higher than the previous generation Thruxton. The power output has also been raised by 41 per cent to pump out 97PS at 6,750rpm, and the new set of megaphone exhausts deliver a thrilling sound, giving the feel of a British racing twin. The fuel efficiency has also been enhanced by 11 per cent in combination with an increased service interval of 16,000km.

Commenting on the new launch, Vimal Sumbly, managing director, Triumph Motorcycles India, said, “Its uncompromisingly elegant and imposing lines are perfectly matched by the quality of the design, detailing, power and performance, and the incorporation of contemporary technology into a ride that’s as poised as it is exhilarating. This combination of head-turning style, spine-tingling performance and unparalleled heritage and character is what makes the new Thurxton R the real deal as well as the ultimate modern classic café racers and something which will enthral the riders here in India. The legend is back.”

The styling of the new model looks more oriented towards its café-racer roots, which reflects in its sculpted fuel tank and other bodywork. The 2016 Triumph Thruxton R comes with some of the best-in-class cycle parts and equipment, making it an ultimate factory cafe racer. The fully-specced machine comes shod with Showa upside-down forks up front, a fully-adjustable Ohlins rear shock set, and Brembo Monobloc radially-mounted callipers on the dual front and single rear discs. For absolute tractability and comfort, the new Thruxton R comes equipped with Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tyres and gets three ride modes - road, rain and sports. Other riding assistance technologies in the bike include traction control, slip-assist clutch, and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

Besides the standard features, the bike gets over 160 stylish accessories options and two optional 'Inspiration' kits, including a full-on Track Racer kit and the Ultimate Cafe Racer kit. In terms of competition, the Thruxton R is a one-of-its-kind motorcycle in the country, so there is no other option to go for.
