The Bajaj Pulsar 220F is known as one of India’s first truly affordable performance motorcycles. When it was introduced, its sporty design, punchy engine and feature list made it an instant hit among enthusiasts who wanted speed without spending too much. Even after being on sale for well over a decade, the Pulsar 220F continues to attract buyers, largely due to its familiar styling, proven mechanicals and strong value proposition. In an official update, Bajaj noted that it runs well on E20 fuel too, and warranty coverage stays the same, no matter how old your Pulsar is. Also, in a recent development, Bajaj launched the updated Pulsar 220F with a new all-LED headlight and a new paint scheme.

The Bajaj Pulsar 220F gets a half fairing that not only looks sporty but also offers decent wind protection. The front features twin projector headlights paired with a black visor. While the design may feel dated to some, it still has enough visual presence to turn heads. The bike is available in four colour schemes: Black Cherry Red, Black Ink Blue, Black Copper Beige, and Black Gold. All of these new colour schemes get sporty graphics that look quite nice.

At the rear, the bike gets split grab rails and an LED tail light. Overall build quality feels solid, and despite its age, the Pulsar 220F still feels robust.

Safety Features

The Bajaj Pulsar 220F comes with a fairly basic safety package by today’s standards. It gets disc brakes at both ends with single-channel ABS. That said, the Pulsar 220F misses out on dual-channel ABS, traction control or any electronic rider aids, which are now commonly available even on motorcycles in a similar price bracket. 

Convenience Features

On the convenience front, the Pulsar 220F is equipped with an all-LED lighting setup, which includes an LED projector headlight, tail-lamp, and sleek-looking indicators. The fully digital instrument console displays essential information and supports Bluetooth connectivity, enabling features like turn-by-turn navigation.

While the feature list is quite limited, it gets the job done; it lacks modern additions like ride modes or ABS modes, which many newer rivals now offer.

Rider Comfort

The Pulsar 220F has a mildly sporty riding posture, thanks to its clip-on handlebars and slightly rear-set footpegs. That said, the overall stance isn’t overly aggressive, and most riders will find it comfortable for daily use. The seat cushioning is plush, and the suspension setup is tuned on the softer side.

Pillion Comfort

The split-seat setup offers reasonable comfort for the pillion, aided by decent padding and grab rails. However, longer rides may feel tiring due to the sporty seat layout.

Engine, Mileage & Performance

Powering the Bajaj Pulsar 220F is a 220cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The motor produces 20.8PS at 8,500rpm and 19.12Nm at 7,000rpm, making it one of the more powerful motorcycles in its segment on paper. Fuel efficiency stands at around 35kmpl under mixed riding conditions.

City & Highway Performance

In city conditions, the Pulsar 220F feels reasonably manageable despite its sporty nature. The strong mid-range allows you to ride in higher gears without frequent downshifts, which helps in traffic. 

Out on the highway, the Pulsar 220F is in its element. It cruises comfortably at triple-digit speeds, and overtakes are handled with ease thanks to the strong power delivery. However, sustained high-speed riding does result in noticeable vibrations, reminding you of the bike’s ageing platform and the lack of a 6th gear.

Gearbox

The Pulsar 220F comes with a 5-speed gearbox that is generally reliable. While the gearbox does its job without fuss, it lacks the slickness and precision found in newer motorcycles, and the absence of a sixth gear means the engine feels a bit stressed at higher cruising speeds.

Brakes

The Bajaj Pulsar 220F gets a 260mm disc brake at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear. Braking performance is adequate for everyday riding, offering decent bite and progression. The setup inspires reasonable confidence under normal braking conditions, though the absence of ABS means riders will need to be cautious during hard braking.

Handling

The Pulsar 220F feels stable and predictable, especially at higher speeds.  

Ride Quality

The suspension setup on the Pulsar 220F consists of a telescopic fork and a monoshock. The tuning is on the softer side, which helps the bike soak up bad patches and broken roads reasonably well.
