Yamaha Yzf R15 Overview

Yamaha is selling bikes in India for more than 3 decades, Yamaha was known in India for its 2 – stroke bikes like Yamaha RX 100, RX 135, RD 350 etc. These two strokers were pocket rockets and these bikes were having cult status at that time due to their raw power. With introduction of new and stricter emission norms production of these bikes was stopped and sales of Yamaha dropped manifolds. In year 2008 Yamaha came back with concept of sports bike with small engine capacity at affordable prices. Yamaha introduced R15 in Indian market, styling of R15 was derived from its super sports bike Yamaha R1 which is powered by a 1000 cc engine. Yamaha revolutionized the way Indians ride and forced other brands to launch sports bikes in India at affordable prices. Yamaha R15 attracted large number of buyers and large proportion among its customer base is younger generation. Yamaha launched new version of R15 called as R15 Version 2.0 last year which is also selling in good numbers and is the first choice of buyers in this segment. This new version of Yamaha YZF R15 has got some worthy upgrades and improvements over previous version. Yamaha R15 is produced in India and also exported to other nations including Yamaha's native country Japan. 

Yamaha Yzf R15 Designing

New Yamaha YZF R15 Version 2.0 is built upon Deltabox frame which is derived from other R – family bikes like Yamaha R1 and R6. This Deltabox frame makes bike much more aerodynamic and bike remains stable at higher speeds and also while cornering. Version 2.0 of Yamaha R15 has overall dimensions of 1970mm x 670 mm x 1070 mm (Overall length x width x height). Bike has seat height of 800 mm and has much longer swing arm than previous version due to which R15 Version 2.0 has larger wheelbase too, wheelbase of this version is 1345 mm and has ground clearance of 160 mm. Yamaha YZF R15 Version 2.0 is a light weight bike and weights around 136 kilograms. R15 Version 2.0 sports much better suspension than its previous version, it has telescopic fork suspension at front and linked type monocross suspension at rear. Bike has very decent Instrument panel which includes large analog tachometer and digital display for speed, odometer and fuel.

Yamaha YZF R15 Version 2.0 is a fully faired bike which looks very much similar other Yamaha R – series of bikes like Yamaha R125, R6 and R1. Bike has number of features which are derived from R – sereis of bikes. Redesigned mid cowl is wide enough which enhances sporty looks of R15. Built quality of bike is top class, everything is neat and clean be it plastics, switches, seat fabric or metal parts. Bike comes with split seats which is very comfortable for rider and offers sporty seating position to rider. New colors and decals give this Yamaha very aggressive looks and styling. From aesthetics and design point of view it beats every other bike in India and attracts attention of many on the roads.

Yamaha YZF R15 Version 2.0 is powered by engine with capacity of 149.8 cc, although engine capacity is small but it is packed with power and wins hands down from other bikes in this segment. The heart of R15 version 2.0 is a liquid cooled, 4 – stroke, single cylinder, 4 valve, SOHC (Single Overhead Camshaft) engine which produces impressive peak power of 17 bhp at 8,500 rpm and peak torque of 15 N.m at 7,500 rpm. This engine is mated to a 6 – speed manual gear box with 1 down and 5 up configuration and gear ratios of 2.833, 1.875, 1.364, 1.143, 0.957 and 0.84 for 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th, 5^th and 6^th gear respectively. If we talk about top speed it can easily go above 138 kph mark. Kick start in YZF R15 Version 2.0 is missing instead it comes with electric start. Bike performs well on open roads and performs equally well in city limits also. Bike comes with a redesigned open loop ECU (engine control unit) which gives good low end torque and mileage.

Yamaha YZF R15 Version 2.0 offers impressive fuel efficiency of 40 kmpl within city and 45 kmpl on highways. Bike has fuel tank capacity of 12 liters which means you can travel around 500 kilometers without refueling again.

Braking and handling of R15 Version 2.0 is best in class. Ride quality of bike is smooth with excellent throttle response. Handling of bike is excellent as bike remains stable and do not wobbles at very high speeds. You can easily maneuver through the traffic and shift your weight from one side to another while cornering on curvy roads and presence of good suspension system ensures improves handling on bumpy Indian roads. Braking duties in Yamaha YZF R15 Version 2.0 are handled by hydraulic single disc at front and hydraulic single disc at rear as well. Braking mechanism of bike is quite effective and gives confidence to rider at high speeds.

This new version of R15 is equipped with excellent safety features which makes biking safe. State of art hydraulic braking system with discs which ensures effective braking even at higher speeds. It sports broad tyres of size 90 / 80 – 17 at front and 130 / 70 – R17 at rear which provide excellent road grip and traction to bike while cornering. In also has bright head lamps which provide effective lightning even in complete dark conditions. For pillion safety YZF R15 Version 2.0 comes fitted with a saree guard which prevents clothes of pillion to be entangled in wheels of bike. Rear view mirrors of YZF R15 V 2.0 provide excellent rear view of vehicles coming from behind. It also has dual horns which are very helpful while maneuvering between heavy vehicles on highways.
