TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 Highlights
The TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 is India's first and currently only ethanol-powered production motorcycle. It is priced at Rs 1.2 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available only in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. The E100's 197.75cc single-cylinder air and oil-cooled engine uses twin-spray twin-port electronic fuel-injection technology.
Final output fingers stand at 21PS at 8500rpm and 18.1Nm at 7000rpm, which is quite close to the standard fuel-injected variant. Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed gearbox and slipper clutch. The underpinnings are the same as the petrol-powered RTR 200 4V. This means a conventional fork and monoshock, both tuned by KYB. Stopping power comes from petal discs at both ends and single-channel ABS is standard.

Ethanol is produced by the fermentation of glucose derived from sugar (sugar cane), starch (corn-based plants) and cellulose (wood and forest products). On the other hand, petrol is made from crude oil that is obtained from deep under the surface. Technically, a litre of ethanol has around 34per cent less energy compared to the same quantity of petrol. So this results in more fuel consumption compared to a petrol-powered counterpart. But on the flipside, ethanol has a higher octane rating. If the octane rating is greater, then the engine can run at higher compression. However, cost-effective, small-capacity motorcycles cannot achieve a higher compression ratio without compromising on reliability. That said, running a motorcycle purely on ethanol will have monetary benefits only if the price of ethanol is considerably lower than the price of petrol. Currently, with petrol prices hovering around the Rs 73, ethanol should cost about Rs 50 to outweigh its inherently low calorific value (amount of energy contained).
TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 isn\'t an electric bike. It runs on Ethanol fuel and works similar to a conventional bike. SO, there is no sound mode available in this bike.
TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 comes with 5-speed gear.
Final power output fingers of TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 stand at 21PS at 8500rpm and 18.1Nm at 7000rpm, which is quite close to the standard fuel-injected variant. Ethanol might be a fairly new concept in India, but it has been propelling automobiles for nearly a decade now, with countries like Brazil, the US and several other European nations have adopted this cleaner biofuel to power their cars and motorcycles. However, petrol-powered internal combustion engines require a few modifications to run on ethanol. However, the production and distribution of ethanol in India is still at a nascent stage. That raises a serious question on the viability of the ethanol-powered Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 - for now, at least. Also, the motorcycle is only available in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh for now. So, it would be a good option if you have sufficient infrastructure for Ethanol fuel in your city.
