After being displayed at the China Motor Show in 2021, Chinese manufacturing company Zhuangwei, known as Jonway in English, has launched the V400 at 23,999 Yuan which is approximately Rs 2,79,246. What’s interesting to see is the bike’s uncanny resemblance to the Indian Scout Bobber Sixty. Here’s a lowdown into what the bike gets:
The bike looks every bit retro through its Bobber design, including a circular headlight, mirrors and indicators.
Even the analogue-digital instrument console is a circular one. It has an analogue tachometer with an inset LCD showing information like fuel level, mileage, speed and gear position indicator. The bar-end round mirrors too, add to the bike’s retro charm.
That said, there are modern bits like the all-LED lighting system and the four-step adjustable clutch and brake levers.
The Jonway V400 gets an 18L fuel tank, which is a fairly large one, especially for its class and should translate to a good enough range for the longer journeys, at least on paper. Adding to the practical bits is the accessible 710mm seat height which should be suitable for all kinds of riders, at least on paper.
Below the tank is the heart of this cruiser: a 398cc V-twin, liquid-cooled engine that has 35PS and 28Nm on offer; figures that are slightly on the lower side when compared against its sub-400cc rivals in India, especially given that it gets an extra cylinder as well. That said, the bike can reach a claimed top speed of 140kmph, which is pretty impressive.

The bike gets an inverted front fork, and a shock absorber at the rear. is in the form of dual hydraulic springs. What is notable is that the front and rear shock absorbers of the Jonway V400 are adjustable. A dual-channel ABS comes as standard on the cruiser. It comes shod with 16-inch wheels at both ends with a 120/80 at the front and 150/80 at the rear.
This cruiser adopts a unique styling at the rear as it does away with the traditional rear tail lights. The brake lights have been integrated into the LED indicators, which is similar to the design we’ve seen on some Harley-Davidson and Indian motorcycles.
Summing up, the bike looks pretty solid and seems to be built well. It oozes of the muscular retro charm that cruisers have. That said, we wish Jonway gave it an original design.
