Suzuki Motorcycles has finally unveiled its upcoming quarter-litre sportbike, the GSX-R250, in China. The bike follows design cues from the litre-class GSX-R1000 supersport motorcycle and is said to be made available in the China motorcycle market from next month. Along with other major markets, the bike is also expected to reach the Indian shores but it might take a long time to reach our country and might be introduced as the Gixxer 250 here. Now, let's see what this new Suzuki has got to stay in the packed quarter-litre segment.

Taking inspiration from the bigger GSX-R1000, the new Suzuki GSX-R250 gets sharp and edgy features that incorporate the true Gixxer DNA. Instead of keeping a track focused design like the bigger Gixxers, the company has designed the bike as a sport tourer, such as the Honda CBR250R and the Yamaha R3. Hence, it will be introduced as a versatile machine that will challenge the other 250-300cc faired motorcycles.

Powering the GSX-R250 is the same 250cc, parallel-twin motor that powers the Inazuma 250 which was offered in the Indian market for a very short span of time. The liquid-cooled, DOHC engine continues to deliver 24.9PS of power at 8,000rpm and a peak torque of 23.4Nm at 6,500rpm. The mill is super refined but the power and torque figures of the bike are much less as compared to the other parallel-twin powered bikes. The engine has been mated to a six-speed gearbox to propel the 178kg machine.

The bike runs on new 17", split-spoke wheels covered by wide, tubeless tyres. Suspension setup also looks similar to that of the Inazuma which comes with 37mm KYB forks at the front and adjustable KYB monoshock at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 240mm disc brake at the front and a 290mm unit up front. The bike has been made available in six colour options in China -- Poseidon Blue, Glacier White, Cool Black, Fashion Black, Transparent Red/Black and Crystal Blue/White.
