Orxa Mantis Electric Bike Unveiled At India Bike Week 2019

Bengaluru-based startup Orxa Energies’ first electric bike is here! 

• The Mantis electric bike gets a 200km real-world range.
• It also features swappable batteries like the Revolt RV 400.
• Orxa plans to launch the bike in mid-2020.

Orxa Energies is a Bengaluru-based startup founded in 2015. The brand has unveiled its first electric motorcycle, the Mantis, at the India Bike Week 2019 in Goa. The electric naked features swap-ready batteries. Interestingly, the battery pack has been developed by the startup itself and it claims they are modular as well.

Orxa claims a real-world range of 200km under urban driving conditions, and the battery is capable of charging completely in less than 3.5 hours using a 15A socket. The 9kWh lithium-ion battery pack weighs 63kg in total. There are six battery units stacked together, housed inside an aluminium alloy frame. 

The startup says the batteries get an indigenously developed Battery Management System. Details about the swapping network will be announced at the bike’s launch event, which is planned for mid-2020. That’s when Orxa will also announce the bike’s final pricing, which it wants to peg between Rs 3 lakh and 4 lakh, putting it in the Ultraviolette F77’s territory.

The battery pack drives an electric motor that’s designed for a peak power of 25kW, same as the Ultraviolette F77. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a velt final drive. The claimed top speed stands at 140kmph. Suspension bits include a 41mm fork up front and a rear monoshock. The motorcycle comes to a halt using disc brake on both ends. At 175kg kerb (including the battery pack), the bike is 17kg heavier than the Ultraviolette F77. Other notable features include a TFT instrument console, twin projector headlamps and LED indicators & tail lamp.
