While the two variants offer different features, range and performance at different price points, both are quite practical as they have the same massive 37 litres of boot space

Kinetic recently launched the Kinetic Electric DX – the modern, electric version of its iconic 2-stroke scooter, the ‘DX’. it is available in two variants: DX and DX Plus. The DX is priced at Rs 1,11,499 whereas the DX Plus is pegged at Rs 1,17,499 (both prices ex-showroom). Confused which one to buy? We explain the differences:

    DX

The ‘DX’ variant looks exactly like the DX Plus minus the ‘+’ branding. It is offered in only two colour schemes: Black and Silver. The DX gets an offboard charger (which means you’ll have to carry it separately), and the same 2.5kWh battery pack but it is tuned differently with a claimed range of 102km. It is driven by a hub-motor with a peak power output of 4.7kW, and has a claimed top speed of 80kmph. The DX variant has pretty basic features and comes with an LCD display with basic smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth. It may not have the fancy features as the one in the Plus variant, but we certainly like the retro design, which is made to look like the console of the original 2-stroke Kinetic scooter.

    DX Plus

The DX Plus variant is the more premium one among the variant lineup. It is offered in five colour schemes: Red, Blue, White, Black and Silver. While the DX Plus is also driven by the same hub motor, it is tuned to make slightly more power and outputs 4.8kW. It has a claimed top speed of 90kmph.

In this variant, with the same 2.5kWh battery pack, Kinetic claims a range of 116km. One of the main differences in the variants is that the DX Plus comes with an onboard charger called the ‘Easy Charge’ feature that lets you plug the scooter directly to the socket rather than carrying a physical charger. The charging cable comes out of the apron itself, so that way, the underseat storage isn’t affected.

Apart from all of these, the DX Plus variant comes with a lot of modern connectivity and convenience features called ‘Telekinetic Features’. It gets tracking features, Anti Theft Alert, Guide Me Home (parking lights that stay on for some time after the scooter is switched off), seat and charger opening switch, geo-fencing alert, data analytics among others.

While the variants might differ on the features and performance front, they share quite a lot of parts. The suspension setup, wheels, brakes and even the battery pack are shared. The variants get features like keyless operation, reverse mode, cruise control, and a footpeg opening lever that is a one-of-a-kind feature.

Both variants of the Kinetic DX Electric get three riding modes: Range, Power and Turbo, along with a speaker (for basic feature alerts) and volume controls. Along with this, the scooters get a 37-litre underseat storage space - one of the highest in its segment. There’s also a USB charging port and an option of regenerative braking called ‘K-Coast Tech’ on both variants. For more information about the scooter’s launch, click here.

Our pick would be the top-end variant as it offers better usable range, and more importantly, the premium over the base variant isn’t substantial enough for it to be a deal-breaker.
