The upcoming Triumph Thruxton 400 has been spotted multiple times this year, but recently the motorcycle was spotted again, but quite a few things about it don’t add up. The bike was seen being ridden by a rider with no riding gear - very unusual for a brand to let an un-launched bike to be ridden without proper safety measures. It had no camouflage but it’s reported that the bike was seen at a location where it looked like there was a studio setup - suggesting that the bike was seen in the vicinity of a commercial shoot. Here’s where it gets even weirder - a quick search of the HSRP (High-Security Registration Plate) number plate revealed that the model name is ‘Himalayan’.
If it is indeed the production version of the Triumph Thruxton 400, then it looks pretty good in our opinion. The main highlight here is the semi-fairing on the motorcycle which helps in setting it apart from its naked sibling. The gloss red paint scheme with white graphics looks different from what’s offered on the Speed 400. It had a Triumph logo on the fuel tank, just like the current Speed 400, and the side panels had a different badging, probably spelling out ‘Thruxton 400’. Other than this, the bike also had the same instrument console and bar-end mirrors as the Speed 400. Additionally, to go with the sporty cafe racer theme, it also got a colour-coded pillion seat cowl.
Now that the bike has been seen in a production-ready form, expect the launch to happen in the next couple of months. The bike is expected to get the same engine as the Speed 400 -a 398cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor making 40PS and 37.5Nm. The underpinnings are also expected to remain unchanged with the same frame as the Speed 400, along with a 43mm inverted fork and a rear monoshock with preload adjustability. We hope Triumph tunes the engine differently, and also tweaks the suspension for a sportier handling.
The price for the Thruxton 400 is expected to be around Rs 2.70 lakh (ex-showroom), and currently there are no direct competitors for the Thruxton, other than the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 which is more expensive and gets a 650cc parallel-twin motor.
